This is the reality that Reagan wrought

Remember that the next time you hear people proclaim that the 40th POTUS "wouldn't be welcome in his own party anymore." That's a load of grade A plant fertilizer. It was his regime that lit the fuse on the explosive times we know as contemporary America.

Reagan was the one who appointed a Secretary of the Interior who only saw nature as something to be exploited for profit.

Reagan was the one who enlisted the evangelicals for his party's ascension to power.

Reagan was who tapped Scalia for SCOTUS, a judge who started from his overtly political conclusions and worked backwards through rationalizations.

The Reagan Era brought us "Greed is good," and that mindset's avatar in Donald Trump. It stoked the fires of jingoism that manifested in pop culture vehicles like "Red Dawn" and "Top Gun." It made people comfortable with their hate, for their fellow citizens and the very government that provided security.

Look around. This is Reagan's "shining city on a hill." But the flashing is from wildfires, gunplay and the gold pouring into the pockets of those already privileged.

Oh there once was a fellow named Watt
called to head the Department of Interior.
Many feared he was a big shot
who would look upon others as inferior.
“Socialist Indians and singers of rock”
were some of the people he soon was to mock.
But these social blunders caused only a ripple
‘til he took on a Black, a woman,
two Jews and a cripple.

There were more verses but I don’t remember them.

5. Today's Republicans don't even support the "Reagan agenda"...

If they studied his actual positions, they would conclude that he was a
"Republican In Name Only" (RINO)

Reagan would not be "extreme enough" for today's Republican "nazi wannabes"

I miss "the old days" when Republican politicians still attempted to "appear reasonable"..

It isn't a matter of whether today's GOP would support Reagan's positions -- or rather the positions of the people behind him pulling the strings. The essential question is whether Reagan and those he represented would back today's stances.

The Reagan positions were a product of time and place. That was what they could sell to the public in that day and age. If they been able to show the public a glimpse into today's reality, into what awaited as a result of their movement conservatism, it would have been rejected. However, the result was always clear to anyone willing to witness and extrapolate.

They pushed the snowball downhill, fully aware of what awaited.

18. Right. He started the overt racism ball rolling by barely concealing it

Everybody knew what he meant when he talked of "welfare queens." He made it acceptable for people to deride minorities publicly.

It's no wonder the backlash to the first black president ended up in a racist corrupt motherfucker who eggs on his cult of deplorables to hate and kill.

dems must stop ignoring rw radio - stop letting 87+ unis and many pro sports teams keep using their majority black athletes to excuse racism and sell semiautomatic weapons -

it's fucking absurd - reagan is a ghost - limbaugh still smells

One billionaire was minted every 30 hours during the pandemic. Now, a million people may fall into extreme poverty every 33 hours, Oxfam estimates.

I suspect cowboy actor Reagan just did what the fat cats told him to do. And being Republicans they were naturally serving themselves at everyone else's expense.

15. You know what else Reagan brought us?
Wed May 25, 2022, 01:41 AM

Normalization of scapegoating black people. Reagan's "Welfare Queen from the Southside of Chicago" was one of his most powerful arguments against "Big Gubmint." Millions of white folks hear the code which fit their beliefs which was "the New Deal social safety net is tainted now that black people have access to it." Since then, about half of the states in our union are now voting against policies that would benefit them. They don't vote Republican for policy. They vote Republican for white power. That is also what Reagan started. And yet he seems like a Pinko next to today's conserve-clown.
