Im stuck.

I worked yesterday's primary at the polls. We are not allowed to have our phones or "chat" with voters. 12 hours. Physical and mental states ran out of gas but we kept the polls going.

I get home, exhausted, and make it to my recliner. I turn on the tv to wind down and go to bed.

The world stopped. Again. Massacred little children in their elementary school. Again. My head falls into my hands. Again. I throw up.

I see their little bodies as if they were lain at my feet. The blood. Again. I want to hold them. I have to pull it together. Their family will be arriving in the morning. I must put the little bodies back together. Again.

..................

I am a retired/disabled mortician. I struggle with PTSD. I've seen the dead, prepared the dead, and consoled the parents who had lost their children.

Once you have seen the gore and horror of a violent death, you never unsee it.

I wouldn't wish anyone to suffer my particular affliction.

However, I think it's time the for the general public to see the mutilated bodies caused by gun massacres.

their own government is promoting every week until it's over. Same with careless industrial accidents and DUI crashes. Healthy adults only, though.

That might get some strict laws and regulations on the books damn fast......

Thanks for sharing your feelings and story, berniesandersmittens. You're not alone today......

I just talked to my daughter. She's keeping her children home from school today, just to be close to them. She knows other kids will be talking about it in school, and she wants to prepare them for the onslaught of active shooter drills.....ACTIVE GODDAMNED SHOOTER DRILLS IN OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS!!!!

My grandchildren are the same ages as those children who were massacred in Texas. I can't sleep thinking about that. 🥺

This country is sick. Right-wing assholes are sick, demented shit-heels who love their damned guns more than their children.

We're all having a tough time today. At least those of us with any empathy and human dignity are.

We sanitize the news so much that we're numb to the reality of it. Are they trying to protect us? God forbid we should see the real life consequences of gun massacres. I think that we as a country would see gun control quite differently if we had to face up to reality.

Daughters bday, great day! Best day since we lost wife in Jan. Then I tucked daughter in bed and picked up the phone. All the good felt like it was gone. What is happening in our country?

You are not alone in your thoughts.

the Republican senators to act, on SOMETHING, at least something more than just "thoughts and prayers"

Of course it would have been horrible for the kids' parents, but it was already horrible for them.

Another senseless mass murder of children. Most countries did something after the first time and yet here we are again. In shock at the cheap and callous way the GOP takes control of the narrative and does nothing but line their pockets with blood money. How dare they call themselves pro life.
A movement amongst their base to stop school shootings is a crossover to another of their new hollering points. Close all the schools. All children should be in homeschooling. Saves them tax money and they get to keep all the guns they want. There is no need for higher education.
Democrats need to take control of the narrative and use President Biden's bully pulpit.

You're right. The public needs to see the carnage, just as they saw bodies on the streets in cities in Ukraine.

Have you looked into EMDR? I've heard really good things about it. Perhaps it could provide a little relief.

I read in the NY Times this morning that parents had to give DNA samples to help identify their children. These little children, dressed in special clothes to celebrate the end of the school year are so mutilated that they can only be identified by DNA. It is sick beyond imagining that so many of the people who are responsible for this don't even care.
We all should have to look. We all should throw up. It is sickening.

We are all having a hard time with this, but I can't imagine how awful it must be for those who have been involved firsthand in any way with this level of violence and loss.

I was in the second grade the first time I saw someone get shot. You're right, you can't ever unsee it.

I agree. It's time for Americans to see the full horror of gun deaths.
