Want to Change Gun Laws? Elect more Democrats.

Want to repeal the 2nd Amendment? - Flip a bunch of seats in the Senate and elect Democrats to state legislatures. A constitutional amendment is the only way to do that. Look up how that happens.

Want to ban assault rifles? - GOTV for Democrats.

Want to require gun registration? - Volunteer to help a Democratic candidate flip a Republican district.

Want universal background checks for firearms sales? - Donate to Democratic candidates in flippable districts.

Want to change unlimited weapons carry laws? - Work to flip legislative seats in your state.

Want to restrict firearms sales to under-21 buyers? - Elect more Democrats in your state.

Want to create a national gun registry? - Elect enough Democrats to have large majorities in both houses of Congress.

That's how we do it. That's the only way we can do it. What are we waiting for? There's an election coming in November. What will you do to help Democrats win more congressional and stage legislative seats?

That's the only path that will work.

How? Follow the instructions in the OP. The same things will accomplish all of our goals - if we do them. The same answer applies to everything:

Elect more Democrats!

Simple.

will lead to a bigger blue wave in 2022 than 2018. But they have to be part of the narrative, people. The drums need to be banging.

January 6th is the gift that keeps on giving.
The threat to Roe is the gift that keeps on giving.
Republican allies of Putin are gifts that keep on giving.
Gun regulation is the gift that keeps on giving.

I grieve and am sick over these shootings, in Buffalo, in the church in California for goodness sake, in a Texas school. These things happen because of things that REPUBLICANS support.

I increased my monthly donation to Act Blue today, in memory of the children in Robb Elementary School. It's time to flood the media with stuff like they do.

I hope one of those parents sticks their finger in Ted Cruz's face and screams "YOU Caused this!"

Just Win, baby.

From the epilogue of "Stamped From the Beginning", by Ibram X Kendi. (Substitute the evil of your choice for racism)

Protesting against racist power and succeeding can never be mistaken for seizing power. Any effective solution to eradicating American racism must involve Americans committed to antiracist policies seizing and maintaining power over institutions, neighborhoods, counties, states, nations—the world. It makes no sense to sit back and put the future in the hands of people committed to racist policies, or people who regularly sail with the wind of self-interest, toward racism today, toward antiracism tomorrow. An antiracist America can only be guaranteed if principled antiracists are in power, and then antiracist policies become the law of the land, and then antiracist ideas become the common sense of the people, and then the antiracist common sense of the people holds those antiracist leaders and policies accountable.

Let me time-shift Winston Churchill's rhetoric. Very few words changed.

We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I can say: It is to wage war, by local, state and national elections, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim?

I can answer in one word: It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival. Let that be realized; no survival for the the United States, no survival for all that the United States has stood for, no survival for the urge and impulse of the ages, that mankind will move forward towards equality, respect for all, and fairness to all. But I take up my task with buoyancy and hope. I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered to fail among all of us. At this time I feel entitled to claim the aid of all, and I say, “come then, let us go forward together with our united strength.”

I don't think that is the only path, but it is the best path

Another path would be a consensus or compromise between both parties on gun legislation. And lets face it, some states are very far away from ever turning blue. So the middle path may be the only one.

Unfortunately at times like this when we read 'ban all guns' 'all gun owners are bad' 'confiscate all guns' 'shut down discussion about guns' 'protest at gun shops' (All statements I have read on DU in the past day) I understand the visceral reaction, but it is just that a reaction, not pro-action.

This sort of rhetoric may have the direct opposite effect of what you are proposing. I think if you threaten to confiscate the guns of, lets say, Democratic gun owners (and there are quite a few) , you run the risk of making them former Democratic voters.
