I got this email this morning

But our thoughts and our thanks are not enough. These massacres are not natural disasters, acts of God, or random. They are totally predictable, direct consequences of the choices made by Greg Abbott and the majority of those in the Texas legislature.
The moment to stop Uvalde was right after Sandy Hook. After Santa Fe High. After El Paso. But instead, Abbott ignored the pleas of law enforcement and turned his back on our communities by making it easier to carry loaded guns in public. The moment to stop the next slaughter is right now.
There will be more Uvaldes, El Pasos, Sutherland Springs, and Santa Fes until we decide to put the lives of our kids ahead of the political careers of gun lobby politicians like Greg Abbott.
He holds the highest office in the state. He has had seven years to save lives but has chosen to make matters worse — by rejecting universal background checks, by opposing red flag laws, by signing permitless carry, and by doing nothing to protect our communities from gun violence.
The only way to change this is by winning political power so that we can protect the lives of those in our lives. We win in Texas and it becomes possible to stop this bloodshed. If we fail in this election, then the slaughter of children in Uvalde becomes our future.

They showed their asses to the world big time - and proved every negative stereotype about them. They ain't changed one bit since the 1960's - George Wallace racists' all.

Also not a lick of compassion to be heard - they just proved their little hearing was all about crocodile tears.

You're absolutely right on the fighting back part.

I'm seriously considering selling everything I have (what little it is) and moving to Ukraine to help them rebuild once Putin is dead and a sane person takes over the leadership of Russia. I may be 62 but, I can still drill, hammer, wire and clear debris. Sadly, instead of us leading by example and building back better, it will be Ukraine that will build back better.

Crashing your opponent’s press conference is, as Cruz said, a stunt. Of course it is. But so was the event O’Rourke was crashing, in which the most powerful men in the state assembled at a school auditorium to do…what, do they do, exactly?

We’re all familiar with this routine by now—the elected officials who descend on the scene in their best emergency-response earth tones to bask in their proximity to law enforcement and collectively absolve everyone with power of any responsibility. People like Abbott and Cruz and Ken Paxton and Dan Patrick—the state’s Republican attorney general and lieutenant governor—will emphasize the “tragedy” of what happened and the unpredictability of it all. There were no obvious signs, Abbott said on Wednesday, not long before O’Rourke’s interruption; law enforcement acted quickly, he said, and saved lives; the assault rifles he acquired shortly before the shootings were, of course, purchased legally.

They’ll give a few days of defensive interviews about hiring veterans to stand guard at schools.

Maybe, in a few weeks, we’ll get “Uvalde Strong” t-shirts.
