That something would have been a simple waiting period!
The shooter literally bought the guns mere days before the shootings.
The kids were 2 days away from being on summer break. Even a short waiting period of a week would have prevented those kids from being shot in that school.
Tell it to the gun humpers that always claim nothing could have prevented it.

(64,988 posts)I sub at 15 different schools. There are NEVER any unlocked doors from 15-20 minutes before students go in, until final bell.
I have to get buzzed in, even if I only went to the car to eat lunch with sports radio on. EVERYWHERE!
I'm shocked this school didn't have all outside doors locked.

(6,267 posts)We don't have the luxury of not locking doors anywhere.

(64,988 posts)... exit doors are alarmed.
In one school during COVID, when giving junior high kids a mask break, we were instructed, day by day, which doors were disarmed in the morning & which were in the afternoon. Then every class taking that outdoor break went out that set of doors.
The next day the set of doors were different.
So, they even had a strategy for disarming the alarms on the exit doors.

(3,240 posts)They always claim there are no laws that would prevent things like this. Well, in this case, a simple law would have prevented it. And, it would not be a law that goes against the 2nd Amendment.

(64,988 posts)I get that he might have found another soft target, but those kids wouldn't have been in that building.
Their last day of school was to be the 27th.

(3,240 posts)I guess he could have delayed it until next school year.

(3,240 posts)In other words, if there had been a waiting period that would have allowed the school to be empty before the shooter got the gun, we would not even be talking about this.
That's the beauty of certain regulations- we never know just how well they might be working.

(67,394 posts)out and if the intruder on campus warning was announced we were supposed to not open the door and let anyone come in no matter what. sorry kids, if u got stuck outside then

(50,935 posts)1) Universal background checks
2) stop selling AR15s
3) red flag laws and extreme risk protection orders
4) safe storage laws
All have widespread bipartisan support.
Those are things we could do. If only the NRA and their acolyte "responsible gun owners" and their bought-and-paid-for politicians would get out of the damn way.
