Dimwit Gov. Abbott
I hear him making a statement about how 'long guns' have been available to 18 yr olds for the last 60 years and there was nothing like this mass murder until recently, which he explains by mouthing about some imagined new mental health issue in our nation.
Bullshit, as usual, out of Abbott.
These mass shootings began, to my recollection, in 1966 with the clocktower sniper at the University of Texas. 14 dead and 31 wounded. https://www.britannica.com/event/Texas-Tower-shooting-of-1966
Abbott has not even begun to properly analyze this situation. The most notable change since 1966 is the easy and common access to high capacity rapid fire combat rifles. Rifles which have no practical use away from a battlefield.
The most pertinent mental health issue around these shootings is found in the inhumane cruelty of men like Abbott. We have put a plague of them into power, and they have seen to it that we have a difficult time getting around their emotional aberrations. The thoughtless sentimentality about the 2A has brought us to where mass murders, of children, is a regular and expected event. And the Mayor of Uvalde shows us what it's all about as he stands up with his pistol strapped to his hip shouting at Beto, calling him a "sick son of a bitch".
