This is a short diary but I am fucking pissed with the ongoing carnage and fucking furious with the ongoing shitty media coverage, the generic words of our Democratic leaders, and the generic words of anyone in front of a fucking camera.

Say the fucking word “Republican”.
In his moving rant, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy did not once say the fucking word “Republican” and lay the blame for lack of action at their feet. Nope. He said “we” 50 times as if Democrats are as much to blame for the lack of action on the gun issue.

I watch two hours of Chris Hayes on MSNBC last night and he too danced around saying the word Republican. He implied Republican by saying, “One party wants to do something about guns the other does not” a dozen different ways as if EVERYONE knows. Same thing with nearly every one of his guests wringing their hands using a bunch of generic speak. Only one Democratic guest actually CALLED OUT THE FUCKING REPUBLICANS by name.

The American people need the repetition of THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE REPUBLICANS beaten into the fucking heads so there is zero question about the differences between our two parties.

snip//

Say it right. Say their fucking name, Republican.

Stop with the weak-ass generic speak, “Americans have a gun problem.”

No. It is Republicans who have a gun problem. Republicans accept this carnage. Republicans refuse to join Democrats to pass common sense legislation.

It is not “we”. It is not “Americans”. It is not “Congress”. It is not “Government”. It is not “our leaders need to do something”. No. Knock it the fuck off.

This is 100% the fault of Republicans at every level of Government and it is long past time to take off the fucking gloves and rub their fucking faces in their blood-soaked mess.

And this needs to happen on DU too.

I was screaming at the radio news this morning demanding they "SAY 'REPUBLICAN'" when they were reporting on the PA State House vote of 111 - 87 AGAINST a bill banning assault-style rifles and any other semi-automatic weapons in the state.

SAY THEIR NAME - REPUBLICANS.

Pa. House votes against taking up gun bill after Texas school shooting

By Associated Press May 25, 2022

An effort by Democratic lawmakers in Pennsylvania to ban owning, selling or making high-capacity, semi-automatic firearms went nowhere Wednesday as state House Republicans again displayed their firm opposition to gun restriction proposals. The state House of Representatives voted 111-87 against the effort by Democratic Rep. Danielle Friel Otten of Chester County to take up the bill after Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff argued it should have to go through a committee first.

The bill has spent more than a year in the Judiciary Committee, where Chairman Rob Kauffman, R-Franklin, has bottled up most proposals to regulate or restrict firearms. During floor debate, Otten said the massacre of 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday created a “moral obligation to act, today, before this happens one more time.”

Minority Leader Joanna McClinton, D-Philadelphia, listed communities across Pennsylvania that have recently been the site of gun violence. The bill would not apply retroactively and result in people losing firearms they already lawfully bought, McClinton said.

Benninghoff, R-Centre, responded that because of the “magnitude” of the proposal it “needs to be vetted through the committee process” so that lawmakers can “get it right.”

Every single person in the media and in real life needs to say it -- Because Republicans in the Senate will not even allow a vote on the law, this is happening.

Because Republicans in the Senate will not allow a vote, there is no searchable database for guns that law enforcement can use. (A red flag trigger ought to happen for anyone who buys 2 AR-15s in rapid succession).

Because Republicans in the Senate will not allow a vote, there is no assault weapons ban.

Because Republicans in the Senate will not allow a vote, there is no magazine capacity limit.

Because Republicans in the Senate will not allow a vote, there is no law preventing people convicted of domestic violence from getting a gun.

we could go on... we could also add. Virtually every Republican in the House voted against every single gun control measure supported by the overwhelming majority of Americans.

This is not a 'government' problem. It is a problem of Republicans who have been bought and sold by the NRA.

Thu May 26, 2022, 10:19 AM
May 2022

I posted the comment below this morning on a WaPo article. We never look at the cultivation of hate and anger in this country solely so Republicans can keep people stirred up and voting for them. Until we do something about the sources of Republican lies and hate, we cannot stop gun violence.

The media is part of the cause for gun carnage in the US. Some media does its utmost to spread hatred and anger among its viewers (Fox) and listeners (hate radio), preaching about nonexistent issues to rile up people in favor of Republicans—fake issues like loss of religious freedom, schools grooming kids to be LGBTQ, women having abortions upon birth, minorities taking jobs from white people, immigrants illegally in the US living off welfare, and on and on. Anything to stir up the anger.

Other media like WaPo fail to call out the contributing factors that lead people to commit mass murders, most of whom are not mentally ill before they commit murder, but that has become a handy excuse for Republicans to do nothing. The media does not call out Republicans and name then for spreading lies that create anger and hatred. Republican Party leaders also spread lies and do nothing to stop the conspiracies. A good example is Alex Jones, who spread the lie that Hillary Clinton was operating a sex trafficking ring from a pizza restaurant in DC. One of his listeners traveled to the restaurant with his assault rifle to rescue the children. Of course there were no children because it was a big lie. Such lies are spread daily on hate radio, a big source of fake news but many colleges support hate radio by paying them to broadcast sports events.

Robert Bowers murdered 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue because he believed lies about Jews. White supremacists marched in Charlottesville chanting, “Jews will not replace us” and murdered an innocent woman there. These actions result from anger and hatred deliberately created through lies by media personalities, social media, internet conspiracy sites, hate radio hosts and a slew of others because we have no meaningful regulation of such sources and because business leaders continue supporting them with advertising dollars. We need to restore and revise the Fairness Doctrine that Reagan killed and that started the rise of extremist right-wing media.

It will be only a matter of days before the next mass shooting because we as a country are awash in guns, hatred, and anger. What we do not have are people willing to look at those causes and do something about them.
