(1 post)My heart is broken thinking of the innocent victims. Perhaps if the media posted images of open caskets like Emmett Tills mother requested, perhaps people would be horrified enough for things to change. I know it would be horrible for the families though.

(21,346 posts)the anger stage of grieving soon enough to have open caskets. In the case if Emmet Till, his mother had dealt with racism all her life and knew that racists murdered her son. I would imagine that the anger was automatic, along with the grief.
These parents in Uvalde were caught off guard. Yes, as Latin Americans, they have had their share of dealing with racism, but this shooting was random and not race motivated. They are probably now dealing with denial, an inability to accept their loss. They are feeling helpless and caved in by grief. The anger will come later.
They are also coping with the siblings of the child they lost, on top of their grief. I remember when my 2 year old nephew died of cancer. His 3 year old brother could not understand why he did not come home from the hospital the last time, like he had other times after treatments. Imagine dealing with your own grief and having to also look after the feelings of brothers and sisters of the deceased child - their questions, fears, and grief in addition to your own.

(6,265 posts)are already dealing with the destruction and murder of loved ones here. I think if every gun nutter was made to walk through a scene like this. Maybe some would regain sanity if they ever had any.

This is an amazing front page and tribute. It was shown on CNN. I am so proud of the whole staff that created this tribute. It expresses the horror and sadness.
