I would not expect a police officer to have to charge in to face a mass murderer with an AR-15 armed only with a hand gun. I don't think suicide is a job requirement, even in the military. Am I wrong there?

The hypocrisy of the GOP is thus revealed.

If cops won’t go in, why should teachers risk their lives.

The Dems should be making this point each and every time they speak.

My Mother was a teacher and would never have agreed to adding "security guard" to her job description. I personally think military style, semi-automatic guns should be banned and all guns should be licensed and regulated. I do not think there is an easy way to get there.

... and to allow an active shooter stay in a building for 40 mins doesn't sound like good policy at all.

Why do they have them if they are afraid to use them? What is the purpose of carrying them? I mean if they are just scared all the fucking time, take their fucking guns away. But then I believe in taking all the fucking guns away.

Why did they let the guy get into the school?

Why were they pinning parents down and threatening them with tasers instead of saving the children?

So many questions and none of the answers are looking good. Bunch of bullshit excuses.

Standard protocol since Columbine is for officers to enter and engage the shooter immediately. They can wait a few seconds if backup is nearby, but if they are minutes away then they go in themselves. And the military can absolutely order you into a situation where death or injury is a near guarantee. Units have refused and were disciplined because of it. Extremely high risk doesn't make the order illegal.

I don't want cops being killed, but it is part of the job to take risks.

I think the big problem is they were literally outgunned, and this guy had armor on too.
Of course, they would be a lot more able to subdue him than the 19 kids and 2 teachers trapped in that classroom.

What's horrifying is that some parents had arrived and were begging the cops to go in, and even trying to go in themselves. I can't imagine the absolute horror of their experience.

Any way you look at it, cops are sniveling cowards.

It's because rupubs have allowed killing machines on the street for 30+ years. These nuts are now more powerful then police in standoff hostage situations. They actually outgun most officers on duty.
