It's just about 11 am here, and so far this morning I got 7 phone calls, all of them spam.
We do have a no-call list here in Wisconsin, and I'm on it.
But the calls are one right after the other.

(3,186 posts)I'm on the federal do not call list. Same thing. I get calls all the time. Medicare, IRS, you name it. The system isn't working.

(15,772 posts)I feel my government works against me. I'm fighting to get ssdi after disability and 36 yrs of work. If I was an oligarch, they'd be minting money for me

(81,277 posts)At least back in the day, SS denied everyone on the first couple of rounds.
They want you to fold up and go away.
You have to keep fighting for it and an attorney can help a lot.
Good luck, don't give up.

(15,772 posts)I've got a great, highly rated ssdi attorney. No way am I walking alone in this. He said, apply first, they'll turn down, then we'll pick up the case. They're prepping my 2nd town down now
Irish_Dem
(81,277 posts)I saw it all the time.
The folks who hired an ssdi attorney and could handle all the turn downs and crap were very likely to get the disability in the end.
The private companies who handle work claims for corporations are actually the worst. They hire private detectives and conduct all kinds of shenanigans to terrorize and harass those who apply for benefits. SSDI are rank amateurs compared to them so that is good news for you that you are not dealing with them. Thank God.

(81,277 posts)The long term disability companies have gone to the dark side.
The things I have seen them do to people are unbelievable.

(15,772 posts)I have to pay the ltd insurance back. It's causing me a lot of stress

(81,277 posts)But they don't have private detectives following you around and harassing your doctors, friends and family. The private detectives writing the most dishonest, misleading reports possible. So that is good.
It will all work out in the end for you, but I know the process is awful.
You should be getting ssdi back dated right? So if you can hang in there it will all even out in the long run. This is part of the game, they want you to give up.
You are going all the right things.

(15,772 posts)He said they can ask for the money back, but it's up to me if I want to pay them. That it's a "bad look" for them to sue. But I can tell them to "go to hell". It's up to me.

Go to hell has a lovely ring to it.

(15,772 posts)But, I'm old now. He has a couple who got 200k and one wanted to pay back, the other spouse not. He was making a call on their behalf.

They might settle for half and call it a day.
Right, only in America.
At least you can have a bit of fun in the negotiations.

(2,636 posts)I have had the same Bay Area phone number since '99. (415-)
My California buddies live in Monterey (831), and Southern Cal. (562, 310, 818, 949 714...) Their names come up on the phone, so I know who's calling.
I'm on the Do Not call list, though I read somewhere we need to renew or re register at some point.
any 408/415/510 call is from someone I don't know, or do not do business with. I don't answer, then block.

(17,564 posts)I've dropped 'cable TV' but kept internet (hello, that's how I'm here!) and they've added a 'filter' to my land-line that requires the caller to 'dial 8' (yeah, I know, ain't nobody dialing anymore!) before the call can go through. A 'robo-call' does not know how to do that!
I used to get anywhere from 5 to 8 calls per day (my 'car warranty' - some 'medical insurance' sales/assistance - etc.) and I was usually busy under a car, cleaning, or cooking when the calls came. It costs me $2.50 a month (and don't tell 'em, I'd pay double that since it works SO well!).
Good luck finding a way to stop the nuisance!

(26,507 posts)Seems to me that the phone companies have no incentive to stop these spam calls - because they make money off of them.

(28,456 posts)just because of robo spam.
I have my phone set so it only rings when its someone in my contacts. At the end of the day i listen to any voicemails and delete them all.
I am surprised that that car warranty nonsense is still a thing.
Today, I answered my husbands phone and it was some guy with a heavy Indian accent trying to sell diabetic supplies or something.

(26,507 posts)I've made up my mind not to vote for any candidate that sponsors these political spam calls.
Maybe if more people said the same and didn't vote for candidates that sponsor these calls that candidates would get the message and not make these calls anymore.

(14,443 posts)It vibrates with a buzz, and my phone is usually with me or close by if I care to look. 99 % of my friends text instead of call and I only respond to callers whose names I recognize. All others can leave a message. I get shit calls here and there throughout the day but since I dont hear them or recognize them, they are completely ignored. Once in a blue moon when Im expecting a call from a business or doctor who isnt on my known caller list, I will turn off my silencer. But otherwise Im only reachable to those who I choose to acknowledge.

(16,271 posts)They spammers just ignore it. If you tell them they act like they've never heard of it.
It was a good idea, but there isn't any teeth and like so many laws that justice or the administration choose not to enforce.

(10,922 posts)Everything with a number I dont recognize goes to voicemail and most of those hang up without leaving a message. Then use do not disturb when sleeping so my phone ringing cant wake me up. Thats it.
