As it turns out, this was the opposite of what happened.

"It could've been worse. The reason it was not worse is because law enforcement officials did what they do. They showed amazing courage by running toward gunfire for the singular purpose of trying to save lives." - Greg Abbott

(1,116 posts)Police do what they always do wait.
This is the case over and over again, police DON'T enter to stop the shooter.

(1,116 posts)The truth came out quickly this time. Usually it's days or weeks later does police inaction come out.
Orrex
(67,245 posts)I have to suppose that someone in the chain of command calculated that their cowardly inaction would be obscured in the aftermath long enough for all involved to escape any consequences.
As usual.

(2,636 posts)The LEOs who went in for *their own children* left the others to die.
The murderer stood outside the school shooting for 12-14 minutes.
Uvalde Law Enforcement paraded around in their tactical gear and faux occupying military force costumes, and were ready to tase *parents* and handcuff mothers and use four officers to force a father to the ground. They set up a perimeter. That's all they did. They kept nosy people and reporters out. They did *nothing* to stop murder or the murderer.
Oh, and the other people shot? 38 people were shot. 17 people with gunshot wounds. We hear nothing. Nothing.

(67,245 posts)I've been listening to NPR a lot this week, and they've had fairly extensive coverage of the unfolding story, but even they've been really lax about mentioning the many wounded.

(4,090 posts)He is not ignorant of the carnage that he will not stand against, accepts.
The statement is a direct admission that the gun is a massively efficient tool of destruction.
It has no constructive use!
Destruction far beyond the limited revenge needs of a teenage ego.

(7,633 posts)Fire all the police without any benefits. We are all sick to death about this horrible event. Sicker yet by the response of those who are supposed to protect us. They failed. They have to pay the price.
I'm sick at heart reading all the posts about this tragedy. Jail the incompetent law enforcers. They are responsible for most of this horror.

(22,466 posts)Let that sink in. As traumatized as the rest of America is by this tragedy, Republicans don't give one shit much less two. Remember that.

(12,673 posts)DeSantis did DeSantis does and turned it into a political stunt by removing the elected sheriff, and installing his hand picked sheriff. DeSantis got to pretend the problem was bad policing by the local sheriff and act like he fixed the problem.
The police has a share in the blame, but learning from DeSantis, Abbott likely will try to turn the local police into scapegoats and performing some BS political stunt to pretend he's doing something about it.
