(14,626 posts)Another fabulously wealthy white cis male comedian desperately seeking relevance by attacking trans people.

(51,308 posts)I've not seen it.
I liked him at the Oscars, but I'm not a huge fan.

(5,969 posts)and agree what others in his thread said about him having a mean side but this is such a lazy, stupid humor. Totally beneath him.
It seems to me that he's stuck in some old perceptions because what he says reveals that he only dealt with the issue on a very superficial level.

(34,330 posts)I have tried to appreciate him but I just cannot make it. Something is just off for me when I watch him.
He really is disingenuous. Even comedy needs to be above that to work.
I wish my saying I will never watch him again would change anything, I do not watch him now. Why on earth would he do such a cruel thing? Asshole.
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)Definitely a bite to his humor.
That's what I liked at the Oscars, but I've seen him a bit over the line at other times. That's why I wondered what he said.
I'm not a huge Netflix fan, so I'll probably never see it.

(44,311 posts)but I felt Steve Carrell brought an underlying likability to the buffoonish boss in the American version that Gervais never managed. Maybe never tried.

(33,498 posts)And now the old-fashioned ones say, Oh, they want to use our toilets. Why shouldnt they use your toilets?
For ladies! They are ladieslook at their pronouns! What about this person isnt a lady?
Well, his penis. Her penis, you fucking bigot!
What if he rapes me? What if she rapes you, you fucking TERF whore?

More of the same bigoted women-with-beards-and-cocks toilet rape jokes beloved by transphobes everywhere.

That "joke" is disgusting.

(27,255 posts)woman freaked out about trans women in toilets. The other (in his regular voice) was someone so concerned about pronouns that they simply correct the pronoun and accidentally end up repeating what the bigot said: "What if SHE rapes you ... ."

(24,860 posts)Not only was the show tedious, the jokes weren't even funny. I sat through most of it wondering what the audience was laughing about. He's not even funny when he isn't punching down. And his explanation of "irony" didn't make up for the mean-spirited privileged rich white guy shtick.

Pre-9/11, when he was probably more libertarian than RWNJ. When his comedy consisted of punching up on everyone. When his idea of election coverage was 5 minutes of riffing on Bill Clinton, followed by giving Bob Dole his 5 minutes. When Dennis was more like Shania Twain (Okay, so you're Newt Gingrich? That don't impress me much...), and less like Bill O'Reilly.
But then 9/11 happened, and he became a coward and a snowflake. The kind who'd spend 20 minutes punching on Hillary Clinton, followed by a 10 minute rant about how his new Republiqan friends were untouchable and amazing.
So, yeah... The last time he was funny would be around the time Wayne Gretzky quit playing hockey.
Now I sit and wait for Dennis Miller to throw his hat into the anti-trans "comedy" ring himself...

I thought you were overrated, not funny, and a bit insensitive. Now I see you're nothing but a vicious, mean-spirited asshole who doesn't think twice about hurting and dehumanizing other people to make you feel better. Once again, we did nothing to you or Chappelle or any of the other bigots. And yet, gee, look at me! I'm funny! I'm punching down on the T's!
You're the kind of fucking tough guy that would steal a Slurpee from a three year old because "I'm thirsty." You're about as tough as a stick of butter sitting out in the summer sun for 10 hours. You're about as witty as a hubcap. You're about as funny as bubonic plague, wanker.
I'm not your punching bag, Dicky. This community is not your punching bag. You're nothing but a heartless, cruel thug with a microphone. And I've had enough of people like you for 12 lifetimes.
You wanna be funny? Be funny. If you can't tell the difference between funny and cruel, you're about as smart as Herschel Walker. What the hell was quoted by EarlG in post #14 isn't funny, unless your idea of "comedy" is Tucker Carlson or Empty Greene. That's just hate speech.
I'm sick of this. And I know your response to your well-earned backlash will be "STOP! YOU'RE CANCELING ME! WAAAH!" Well, call the Wambulance, Dicky. I don't care. I care as much as you care about people like me.
Go away, Gervais. Take Chappelle and Maher with you. Hell, while you're at it, take Ted Sarandos with you. Because fuck Sarandos and Netfux. Sarandos has made his views absolutely clear with continuing to air this kind of shit. Hell will freeze over before I ever give Netflix a cent after the last 8 months.
"Real men" punch up and take on the system. Wankers like Gervais punch down and join the system by trying to crush vulnerable, innocent people who have done nothing to them.
We do not exist to be abused like this.
