Now they want to "compromise" on what will be watered down gun legislation. Democrats need to be bold and keep calling them out on their BS. They are going to lose.....Take a lesson Democrats...Be like Beto and rise up!

(46,698 posts)On the committee. This should never have happened. Take a page out of the J6 committee appointments. What if the Dems allowed one of their Trump supporters on the committee instead of Liz Cheney?

(1,919 posts)They are doing what they always do. Give lip service to some compromise, run out the clock, and when the publics attention inevitably moves to something else, they'll drop the pretending and refuse to do anything.

(509 posts)The news cycle will move on and the immediate anger will start to die down so then the NRA will move in and scaremonger their congressional minions into passing bills to actually loosen gun laws in order to preempt any gun control laws they claim are being planned.

(8,806 posts)They should be worried..........If this and the Abortion issue don't give the dems all they need in the 2022 and2024 elections then the Dem leadership should be replaced...........
Then again, with the attitude of Republican Politicians seemingly not worrying about anything they do, no matter how corrupt, I wonder if they know they are invincible and don't have to worry about any future elections.
Maybe they know the "fix is in, on any future election.

(5,641 posts)but they are also delusional, and that can be used against them.
Totally agree that if losing abortion rights and the gun control and the Jan 6th crimes aren't enough to get our voters out, it's like WTF are we doing? And we will need new leadership.

(10,749 posts)What we're seeing today is the culmination of a 50-year plan to repeal Roe, emasculate government, exempt corporations from any meaningful taxation, demonization of anything not republican or conservative, etc. The Dems need a similar 50-year plan to repeal the 2nd amendment, enact 1950s-level corporate taxation etc.

(45,806 posts)a better solution would be to repeal the authority for the general public to buy and/or own automatic assauolt rifles. There is NO reaseon anyone other than the military to have an assault weapon. They are designed & built to KILL a lot of people in a short time!

Dems need to never let up on this until every voter knows who aided and abetted the massacre of school children.

(6,535 posts)they own the SCOTUS, so even if any legislation might happen (unlikely IMO), it would be struck down pretty quickly I think. They packed the courts, they ratfucked the census, they are continuing to work to install full fascism just as they have been for some time now.
That said, don't let the fucking cockroaches scurry under the floorboards; don't let the fuckers sleep, keep after them.

(31,232 posts)people like us, who watch MSNBC & participate on left leaning chat forums, for that of the American public at large. Sadly, it's just not that simple. People making declarations like "GOP running scared" are free to make such declarations, but they're bound to be disappointed and eventually wind up blaming Democrats for the failure to change things. The gun culture in this country is deep seated & heavily financed by interest groups, and they ain't going nowhere.

(3,406 posts)Confiscate and destroy all assault weapons.
Confiscate all personal handguns. This was Richard Nixon's conservative opinion in 1972 (when the great public fear was black people arming themselves).
Mandatory background checks for rifles and shotguns. 90 day waiting period.
Mandatory registration and liability insurance for personal arms. If your gun is stolen and used in a crime, you and your insurance are liable for damages. Let actuaries determine the true cost of the Second Ammendment.
If we are serious about addressing gun violence...GET SERIOUS ABOUT GUN VIOLENCE!

(10,146 posts)NRA, with as many active members willing to only vote for candidates promising to enact gun control, and always vote against pro-gun candidates.
The NARA (National Anti Rifle Association) members would also have to ignore every other societal problem as singlemindedly as pro-gun voters. Unfortunately (or fortunately), that doesn't fit the profile of the typical progressive voter.

(21,111 posts)Allowed to possess that type of gun. Pass legislation that makes them illegal to possess. Give a grace period of 6 months to turn in with a gun buy back program. And if a person is caught in possession afterwards of one of them they should get 6 months in jail.
Were not taking away your pistols or rifles just those large capacity assault weapons. And also ban those large capacity cartridges.

(14,410 posts)Stay tuned for two things: The public hearings coming in June. We're going to see a lot of early retirements. And the Justice Department swooping down on Texas after this horror and mass shooting of mostly young children, while the local police officers stood around and let it happen. People are done. At last, they are done.

(526 posts)All the members in the House & Senate have seen McConnell pull this BS again and again. McConnell will either water it down so bad that it doesn't appear to help anyone or he will have them approve the bill then NOT FUND THE BILL. McConnell has had years of crap where he hurts the American people (a.k.a. he own constituents) and he doesn't care because his wife funneled so much money into the state that McConnell looks good. His wife gave his state so much money while refusing to assist the rest of the country, it's all politics and McConnell can not be trusted...

(23,336 posts)Dems are arguing among ourselves about how much to regulate, and how to define various technical terms related to firearms. As long as THE ISSUE is gun-control, Reps will gain seats.
GOP was a bit worried when the right to abortion was THE ISSUE. With that issue, DEMS seemed to be heading for increasing majorities in the fall.
Which issue will be THE ISSUE in November? Or will it be something else, like the economy?

(1,323 posts)That implies a whole lot of things that just don't apply. An awareness on their part that they have done something wrong. Concern about having done something wrong. Believing that anything threatening at all will happen to the party of trump, which is impervious to any laws and is never held accountable. They aren't scared at all.
