(32,748 posts)When a state Supreme Court rules in favor of democratically-motivated redistricting, and it's subsequently fought by RW/Repuke efforts to strike it down, they usually take it to SCOTUS. To my knowledge SCOTUS has never overruled the state court's favorable ruling; SCOTUS has either refused to hear the case, or they have heard it and subsequently upheld the state ruling.
Maybe the RWNJ's might take a hint by now? Even SCOTUS thinks they're wasting time on gerrymandering efforts to game their elections. I'm not a lawyer but I've been following these stories on DU and in the national news for several years.
In Pennsylvania we had remapping efforts due to Repukes' gerrymandering after the 2010 census. It took 8 years to get the PA map redrawn, but the effort was worth it. Our Congressional Districts are not perfect, but they're farther in line with the will of the people than ever before. SCOTUS refused to hear the PA Repukes' whining and bitching complaint TWICE. They sent them back home and told them to live with it. Since 2018 we've had 2 elections where Congressional District seats flipped back to blue, after the redrawn districts became more fairly aligned.

(8,283 posts)They took a fight over a depo subpeona to the 5th circuit and to SCOTUS. They didn't want to be questioned about how they drew their map. They are fighting this hard and it's not even about the map... yet.

they don't care about law, they don't care about the people of this state, they only care about enriching themselves and staying in power at whatever the cost.

(36,133 posts)They're proven to break gerrymandering laws based on racism? Then the court assigns re-districting to a third party?
Just wondering, cuz this might take all summer.
