Here's an interesting take: Students should refuse to go back to school.

Laurence Tribe

@tribelaw

An intriguing idea: “What if students, parents, and teachers took the next three months to mobilize? They could create thousands of local committees supporting the strike and decide on what the national demand might be—say, an assault-weapon ban.”

The kind of strike Tribe is proposing would be about as effective as an armed robber demanding money by threatening to pull the trigger of a gun pointed at his own temple.

walkout involving students, parents, teachers etc. might be something to consider. It might also be worth reminding legislators that high school students can vote or will be able to in the near future.

they would not be going to school at all! They would be homeschooled. I did homeschool my younger son, due to his asthma, and it was very hard because New York is extremely strict with homeschooling regulations, but it was the right thing to do. Children need to be protected from violence and illnesses.

No second car, no bigger house, no vacations, no luxuries. Lots of casseroles, ramen, and beans & rice. Clothes bought from garage sales.

But what else could I do? My son's asthma would get triggered by even the most minor common cold.

I did try to send him to kindergarten, but he missed half the year and was sick constantly, so I gave up and just homeschooled him after that.

We were able to make it work even though it was tough financially. However, nowadays, with the crazy inflation and high prices on everything, I'm sure it would be even harder. My three kids are grown now and money is even tighter now than it was back then.

He does realize that parents were pissed over Covid lock downs and largely blamed teachers unions for why their children weren't returned to school as quickly as they wanted.

I'd love to see someone propose this one.

"We'd like you to keep your kids home for three months as a political statement."

I seriously wonder when our political and commentariat classes constantly have these weird ideas or make statements that scream, "I have no idea how average people live in this country."

Sure. Let's push this before November. See how it works out for us. As if we don't have enough of a headwind with everything else.

I would pretend to be sick every day during the school year. Maybe the best way to keep your own kids safe and sound is to home school them. Better yet, find out where the GOP/NRA teat suckers send their kids off to school. Then enroll your own kids in the same schools. The Trump brat, The DeSantis brats, the Scott brats, the Rubio brats, The Gates brat, The Abbott brat, The Cruz brats, The Gym Jordan brats, The Romney brats, The Lyndsay Graham brats...oh my fail, no brats for lucky Lyndsay. When was the last time you heard of any classroom with these names getting shot up? Maybe never. Send your kids where they send theirs. It's the only way you can be sure of your own children's safety.
