"Once a week, one news story, one thing you can do about it" [interesting idea]

I just came across this today. Seems like a positive idea. "The Inspiration. Today Do This was inspired by Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s six steps of nonviolent social change. His approach has changed the world before, and in your hands it can again."

Our ‘do-something-about-the-news letter’ revisits one major headline each week and suggests a simple, practical action you can take that day to make a difference.

In Uvalde, Texas, nineteen children and two teachers were killed in a mass shooting at an elementary school. The tragedy is the 27th school shooting in the US this year, the 212th mass shooting, and comes just 10 days after 10 people were killed at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.

Everytown is a movement of 8 million Americans promoting evidence-based solutions that reduce gun crime and save lives.

For those in the US, Everytown make it very easy to take action: donate, pressure legislators, join events or volunteer your time. For those of us not in the US, remind yourself how other countries successfully responded to mass shootings and share those stories with your networks.

🧡 What can you do at work? Encourage colleagues to participate in Wear Orange from June 3rd to 5th.

The event began when Chicago teenager Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed on a playground. What started as a commemoration by friends has grown into a national observance marked by people wearing orange (the colour hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others from being shot).
