(17,644 posts)the cops had to wait on someone to open the door for them before they could get into the room where the shooter was, and then they killed him right away. When would the police have shot any children, when the door was opened and they fired into the room? I thought that Ramos had already killed the children who were in the room with him. I guess that maybe a stray bullet might have killed a child who was still alive, but I don't think the police killed very many. I understand that people are angry at the cops for their cowardice, but I'm not inclined to fault the cops for an accidental killing under these circumstances.

(13,845 posts)4 or 5 survivors in that room. There was an early report (which I haven't seen confirmed, so this is from hazy memory and may have been disproved) that when the police breached the locked room, they called for the kids to call out for help if they were in there. One did and was immediately shot by the assailant.

OH how sad!!
Dorian Gray
(13,845 posts)there were initial reports that that had happened. I haven't seen it corroborated in recent articles. (So take with a grain of salt.)

(5,825 posts)"I was hiding hard," the boy said. "And I was telling my friend not to talk because he is going to hear us."
Soon after, police arrived at the scene. An officer told the kids to "Yell if you need help," the boy recalled.
"One of the persons in my class said 'help.' The guy overheard and he came in and shot her," he said. "The cop barged into that classroom. The guy shot at the cop. And the cops started shooting."

(13,845 posts)I had known I read about it, but didn't know where to look to find the source. It's horrifying. (Unlikely the story will be corroborated by the police who are no longer complying with the investigation into what happened.)

(31,027 posts)This thread is off base, however, claiming that the cops killed kids with zero proof.

(5,339 posts)So that cop didn't shoot the kid, but contributed to their death 100%.

(13,845 posts)a gut feeling about something doesn't make it true.
I've often asked myself how so many people believe in "the Big lie," let alone Q anon bullshit.
But a thread like this shows how it can happen. You take something that has an emotional element and fufills confirmation bias... and voila.
If there is actual proof or testimony of something like this happening, please share it. Otherwise it's conjecture, confabulation and conspiracy...

(52,858 posts)I do totally believe the Uvalde PD and Uvalde School PD are no longer cooperating with the Texas Rangers in this investigation, but only because they've heard "what the hell were you thinking?" more than enough. Every cop in Uvalde has been issued an NIJ Level IV vest, which will stop 5.56mm rounds, and what appears to be a PASGT ballistic helmet which will also stop the bullets this gunman had with him. There is no real reason, other than the cops not wanting to go in there, they couldn't have gone in and shot this guy BEFORE he was able to murder so many people.

(34,630 posts)Looks like they found their scapegoat. Whatever happened was not good for the PD, whether this latest accusation about them shooting kids was true or not. But, now they have someone they can point their finger at, in order to distract from their own incompetence. I feel bad for the teacher. Her life is likely to become an even bigger hell.

(34,630 posts)It's not like that punk couldn't shoot through the windows, without even having to enter the building. The cops could have taken him out through the windows, too. But, look! Squirrel! I mean DOOR!! Got to help Ted Cruz keep up his lame excuse-narrative, I guess.

(13,845 posts)I am glad that this has been challenged so much.
There is plenty of real info out there to be critical of the police about in this case. We don't need to make stuff up.
