Someday we may see that famous quote in Bartlett's Familiar Quotations?
Why is our country "going to hell"? When the leader of one of the major political Parties in this country talks such trash, how could our country be going anywhere else?
The damage he did in four short years, and continues to do, is immeasurable. The filth that he spread around will take a long time to clean up, if ever?
When we look at all the problems now facing this country, most of it can be traced back to the words and actions of the former guy in the White House. Whether it be inflation, with the high price of gasoline, the war in Ukraine, the loss of respect around the civilized world, the failure to address the pandemic in a meaningful way, or the deep division in this country, it can all be traced to the former guy that called the White House a "dump".
The lies that he spread were worse than the pandemic that enveloped our country. Whenever our country needed to be united, he was always there to tear it apart, with his silly name-calling and childish antics.
If our country is "going to hell", we know who put us on that road.

(21,264 posts)The GQP hasn't written legislation for decades, it was written by oligarchs. Remember ALEC? Well there are numerous front organizations who write legislation, buy politicians, pick fascist judges. Members of the GQP are not legislators today, they are prostitutes, they are pump handles for oligarchs, they are bull horns of propaganda.
This is why every member of the GQP speaks with one voice, pushes the exact same talking points, they are being coached.
Sheldon Whitehouse gets it, once Citizens United allowed unlimited amounts of dark money into politics the American oligarchs bought the Republican party.
Donald Trump is a pump handle for the American oligarchs, were he to die tomorrow, nothing would change.
I fear we are already in hell, one party is compromised and our Supreme Court is full of partisan fascist judges.
The answer I keep hearing is GOTV, but that may not be enough, GOTV only works for fair elections.
Hell is upon us. Once they gain total power they will not relinquish it.

As a collective, we are all fascists in a way... based
on certain assumptions about capitalism and
ownership.
You can talk me down if you want, but that's how it
looks to me right now.

(21,264 posts)the rich follow crony capitalism.
When Walmart came to town I urged my friends not to go there. I have only been in a Walmart 2 times in my life. I still do my best to buy from local mom and pop stores and I buy union made and made/assembled in America.
America isn't capitalistic, it is crony capitalistic. MSNBC fired Dylan Ratigan because he was going across the country exposing crony capitalism.

(5,334 posts)Knows where the US is now, where it has been, and how it came to be the way it is today.
But if the world could speak with one voice it would say . . . .
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?
Personally, I have seen no determination to change things. Not from Joe, and not from anyone down from his position as POTUS.

And they always seem to ask it when Dems are in the crosshairs so repubs can point and say, "See! It's their fault!"
