Girl Scouts of USA posthumously bestowed upon Amerie Jo Garza, 10, of Uvalde, TX, the Bronze Cross

Last week, Girl Scouts of the USA posthumously bestowed upon Amerie Jo Garza, 10, of Uvalde, Texas, one of the highest honors in Girl Scouting: the Bronze Cross. The Bronze Cross is awarded for saving or attempting to save life at the risk of the Girl Scout’s own life. 1/3

On May 24, Amerie did all she could to save the lives of her classmates and teachers. It was our honor as Amerie’s council to present the Bronze Cross to her family, and Girl Scouts will continue to pay tribute at her funeral services today with a Presentation of Colors. 2/3

Medal of Honor: This award is given to a Girl Scout who has shown presence of mind (a clear and calm head) and true Girl Scout spirit in an emergency.

Not real knowlegeable on this, but the first one could be handled at the local level; the MoH may have to be processed at national level, which may take some more time. But if I was on that committee, I would approve it before the ink was dry on the application. GSUSA would be nuts not to do this.

We had one of our troop whose father shot himself right in front of her (right across the alley from us). Horrible

Grade school children shouldn't have to make life or death decisions "under fire".
It's sad that so many people care so little about other people that guns become more important than lives.
Are we becoming a nation of sociopaths?

I hope this gives her family and friends some measure of comfort but to me it is a red flag when children take on the role of hero, and so tragically. It is the singular duty of us adults, the duty from which all our other duties arise, to transform the world into a safer place for the innocent. We have failed, abysmally.

That any child should have to know about smearing themselves with a classmate’s blood in order to play dead is beyond horrifying.

I saw this on TV and my first thought was Biden should award that medal posthumously to her and to more than a few others in Uvalde, both alive and deceased, and the same for the security officer in Buffalo, NY earlier.

(It will also help remove the stench of Trump giving the medal to a corpulent, thrice-married bag of meat who sent his maid out to buy his illegal drugs, and to boy-molesting traitor, Jim "Gym" Jordan.)
