Woman gored and tossed 10 feet in the air by bison in Yellowstone Park

A 25-year-old woman from Ohio was injured after being gored by a bison and tossed 10-feet in the air at Yellowstone National Park, park officials said.

According to a news release, the woman approached the bison within 10 feet Monday morning, and two other people were within 25 yards of the animal.

As the bison walked near a boardwalk, the woman got closer and the bison attacked her, tossing her into the air.

The woman suffered a puncture wound and other injuries, park officials said. She did not die at the park and was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, park officials told USA TODAY.

They are not pets. Even a deer can be dangerous let alone a bison. You shouldn't even approach a horse you don't know that closely.

When I was in Jackson Hole many years back, the local paper noted that a tourist placed his 3-year-old child ON TOP OF A BISON'S HEAD

FFS!!

All survived the encounter, but that's when I got a crystal clear view of just how stupid some tourists can be, eh? OY

Back in the 70's my family took a trip through Yellowstone from west to east, and as we got to Cody we heard a story on the radio about a guy that walked up to a Bison, stood next to it for his wife to get a picture, and sure enough, the animal swept his head at the man and put him in the hospital.

Yeah, in spite of numerous warnings and admonitions from the Park and Rangers, some idiot(s) will ignore the warnings to give the animals space and get hurt.

Happens all the time.

that was there would lick it off and she'd get a good photo of it.

The bear, not understanding the idiot's idea, just ate the kid's hands.

On edit: I have this image of that kid as a teenager talking to his mom: Gee mom, I'd love to help you out with the dishes (or any other chore) but, thanks to you, I HAVE NO HANDS!!!"

We were in Yellowstone in September and got up close and personal (in our car) with a herd of Bison in the middle of the road. I barely opened my window to take pictures. Those critters are huge.

I'm sorry she's hurt, but it is 100% her own fault.

Never understood people wanting to get so close to wild animals. No matter how much you think you know, there is that wild streak in there. But, I guess being an avid surfer, I am a bit of a hypocrite on the subject.

I stopped on the road in Yellowstone (yes, there is only one road ), and the bison were walking single-file on the yellow line. I was just hoping they would calmly walk by and not decide to head-butt the side of the car. No damage was done.

They probably thought the road was easier walking than the deep snow everywhere else. Amazing scenery.

Each time I've entered the park, the ranger says something and hands you a few brochures. At least one brochure is pretty much "don't do that" in as plain of English as one could need.

I mean, you have to be totally stupid. Totally.

And yet....

Which interestingly enough is right in the ages range that "idiot" was defined as when it was used as a clinical term for arrested development. (Idiots was IIRC 2-4, "mbecile was 5-7. "moron" was 8-10&quot Excessive lay usage of the terms to be insulting led to changes in clinical terminology, as well it should.

In any case, my uncle grabbed me and prevented me from attempting to ride "bear-back." I did grow out of seriously wanting to do that.
