Marjorie Taylor Greene Claims Straight People Face Extinction

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has joined those pushing the baseless assertion that the mass shooter in Uvalde, Texas, was transgender or at least gender-nonconforming — and she has also claimed that there’s a plot to turn everyone gay or trans.

The Uvalde gunman, who killed 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school last Tuesday before dying himself, “had a lot of mental issues going on, as was shown with him wearing eyeliner, cross-dressing, a lot of his language, being a loner,” Greene, a Georgia Republican, said Saturday on a social media livestream. Clips of this and other outlandish remarks are being shared widely on Twitter.

Another Republican member of Congress, Paul Gosar of Arizona, tweeted last week that the shooter was “a transsexual leftist illegal alien.” Gosar eventually deleted the message. Other right-wing politicians and commentators have falsely claimed the shooter was trans. Trans women have been harassed because of this and at least one, in Texas, physically attacked. For the record, the gunman was not trans and was a U.S. citizen.

Greene, who is infamous for her unhinged rants and embrace of conspiracy theories, went even further in her anti-LGBTQ+ remarks. She claimed that authority figures are “grooming” children to identify on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, to the extent that straight people will become extinct.

through their twisted little minds that gender isn't something that you can just turn on and off. That it isn't something that you just "choose." It's something innate. You're born with it. My god. Did they "choose" to be straight? Did they ever... just once.. think about being "straight"? Or did they always just "know" they were straight? Just like someone else always just "knew" they were "gay," etc?

What is so hard about that? It's been a medical fact for centuries! Babies have been born with ambiguous sexual organs for ages! Gay people have been honored as Shamans and revered as special individuals born with two souls in indigenous and other ancient peoples. We have lost so much in turning our backs on the old ways.
