(52,196 posts)i'm glad there are some people out there trying to teach the police that they need to respect people's rights.
i'll agree that it's not unreasonable for the police to ask questions or request id.
but it's not unreasonable to politely decline to waive any of your rights in an encounter with police.
the police response of threatening, calling for backup, and then arresting on the clear basis of absolutely nothing was outrageously improper behavior (never mind managing to cause damage to his person and his property despite his apparently being very compliant physically).
i'm glad the guy got the charge dismissed and got a settlement from the town.
police can't just arrest anyone when the conversation isn't going the way they'd like.

(9,165 posts)to public photography, his 4th Amendment right to be free of unreasonable search and seizure, and his 5th Amendment right to silence in the face of the cop demanding he cooperate in his investigation and answer questions.
Very reasonable requests.
