Supply and demand works just fine with or without Capitalism. Capitalism is only about using capital to make more capital.

We can still have regulations on out of control monopolistic corporations even with (gag) capitalism (gag). Not regulating capital is called Laissez-faire economics and it's what caused the Irish famine.

Progressive Pro Investor (they do exist)
@SaneYossarian
Oil companies are admitting on earnings calls that they're intentionally keeping supply low to keep prices high. Refusing to drill & produce more oil to inflate prices. How is this not gouging? And why do we give them $25 billion in subsidies per year?

From the Guardian article:

In earnings calls, executives detailed how even as demand and profits rose post-vaccine, they passed on most or all inflationary costs to customers via price increases, and some took the opportunity to add more on top. Margins – the share of sales converted into profits – also improved for the majority of the companies analyzed by the Guardian.

Economists who reviewed the data say it’s more evidence of a clear reality: Consumers are taking a financial hit as companies and shareholders profit or are largely shielded.

I HATE OIL Companies and the stupid people who don’t get this is a political ploy to destroy the Biden Administration and the Democratic Party.

It has a small gas engine that powers a generator that charges the battery when it gets low, so I don't need to worry about being stranded away from an electrical outlet. I drove a Porsche for years and this car is as much fun to drive.

I told him it's Trump's fault because he passed resolution 420-714 that allows the president to set fuel prices. I told him all Biden has to do is get up in the morning and call all the gas stations with the price of the day. "Thank Trump."

He called bullshit on me, but I remained steadfast, just like he was with his BS.
"No, it's true!".

The US gas industry is producing fewer than 12 million barrels per day—8% less than in 2019. They have refused to ramp up production because they’re making exorbitant profits from the Russian sanctions and the refusal of MBS to expand output. CEO and top management bonuses are tied to profits. I imagine they will milk this situation until the economy gets forced into a recession. They’re rich enough to not be bothered by a recession.

Edited to add: I just checked historical data, and in 2019/the US was producing over 13 million barrels per day. Today it’s 11.6 million. The ability to produce that 13+ million barrels per day is still there. The willingness is not. We are being held hostage by utter greed.
