(22,920 posts)I searched because I wanted to know more about this Charles Montgomery Allen.
Timmons initially asked Allen if he understand the charges against him, but he didn't answer.
Allen replied he's a victim and he's been trying to get help for the past two years.
"Can I say that I have been a victim here well over two years? Every device I have has been hacked. Every device, my cell phones. My TV. I cant even get a signal at my home to watch TV. Like there is some kind of jammer in the area. I have been a total victim for well over two years. And I said over and over and over I did not want anyone to get hurt. This is not the first. The first time I went and stole some stuff from the store. Just to see if there was still law and order. In existence, to whats been going on in my life. That was when I came in here for stealing some Raisin Bran. I have a clean record. I have never been a criminal in my life. I came home about two years ago from truck driving. And something has been after me. I cant explain it. It is out of my realm of understanding. But, to say thats not the case would be a lie. And I have never had bad intentions toward anyone in my life," said Allen.
"And I am trying to explain it that I have acted out before. And nothing happened. Because I have been trying to figure out whats going on for over two years now. Well, over two years. And I wasnt trying to shoot anyone. And I said over and over and I know they can hear me. Because they can hear me and theyll respond," said Allen.
Yes, we all know there is a mental health crisis in this country which is part of the general healthcare crisis. Without universal healthcare, this won't change.
Who knows if this man is on drugs or had a psychotic break or what, but I share this because he sounds like the QAnon conspiracy theorists who are all one incident away from being mass murderers, especially if they have access to guns. I dare say no one is mentally healthy, so blaming mental health is useless and demonizes people living with mental illness. People are law-abiding citizens -- until they aren't.
This is a perfect storm of violence that has been gathering for a long time but has coalesced beginning in 2016 when Trumpism with its inherent racism and bigotry unleashed it and he and his followers have been stoking that violence this whole time.

(53,998 posts)I looked in the articles online and didn't see the child's name -- withheld, I assume, cause they want to notify family and classmates in a more sensitive manner than finding out on the news.

(3,406 posts)Until an actual violent act is committed, this man WOULD NOT BE DEEMED SICK ENOUGH FOR INVOLUNTARY TREATMENT!
Americans live under the fantasy that a community can encounter a person this ill, and force him into a hospital and make him take antipsychotic drugs against his will.
NOT TRUE!
It takes actual violence or close-call suicide attempt for such an intervention. Even then, the legal system is biased toward civil liberties, not safety.
In the wake of mass murders lately, folks are crowing that perpetrators "should have been on the radar" so that they could be monitored and prevented from acting out.
WHO is going to monitor them?
HOW are we supposed to intervene when psychosis on the street is deemed acceptable?
Access to mental health treatment MUST be improved, but a large number (likely a majority) of the untreated WILL NOT ACCEPT treatment voluntarily.
The laws must change to allow interventions in cases where people are incapable of recognizing the danger they pose to themselves and others.
The link below goes to the leading organization advocating proactive interventions.
