But Im sure if the gun lobby wanted it to happen, and I dont understand why they didnt jump even more on that bandwagon to start with, it could be accomplished.

It was immediate thought that any American patriot with more than 1 AR in private ownership should be asked by the NRA to donate one or more to the Ukrainian war effort. The PR of doing that loud and proud would have been a big shot in the arm for their flagging organization, as would be the "see what happens when citizens are armed" propaganda.

All I can say is Russia must have more direct control of them than I had realized.
