A Florida charter high school raffled off guns as part of a fundraising campaign.
Every day, May 2-today, the school picked a name from a tumbler. Tuesday, a week after the shooting in Uvalde that killed 21 people, the school raffled an AK 47.

A Florida high school raffled off guns and other weaponry through a month-long fundraising campaign that ended Wednesday.
James Madison Preparatory High School in Madison, a charter school, raffled off fishing and hunting gear and firearms, including handguns and semi-automatic rifles, in a $100-per-ticket raffle that started May 2.
The raffle went on largely unimpeded despite two horrific, national tragedies: mass shootings at a Buffalo supermarket and an elementary school in Texas that left nearly three dozen people dead last month.
"Giveaways like this emphasize the need for background checks on all gun sales and transfers," said Nancy Fry, a volunteer for the Florida chapter of Moms Demand Action in Broward County.
In Florida, transfers and unlicensed sales of firearms do not require background checks. Only licensed sellers are required to perform background checks.

(82,849 posts)When they hand over the weapon to the lucky winner, raffle officials are very careful to suggest that the winner not to use their new shootin' arn in the school building. So, that's covered.

(4,616 posts)after the Parkland shooting too. I don't remember what specific school. It's amazing to me that adults are raffling away AR's to fundraiser for a 10 year old girls baseball team, or a HS or any organization for kids. Why not host a "lap dance night" as well? As long as it's not mentioned in a book, should be fine.

(1,132 posts)The VFW post there is raffling 52 firearms; one per week for whole year. 13 ARs, 13 9mm handguns, 13 .380 automatic handguns and 13 12GA semi-auto Shotguns. Every little bit helps.
