Don’t fall for this Republican bullshit on guns.

Scalia himself wrote in DC v. Heller that “the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited,” adding that "nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions" on:

McConnell adds he is "hopeful and optimistic" that bipartisan agreement can be reached at the federal level to "actually target this problem."

"But I believe that this needs to be done consistent with the Constitution and the culture of most of country."

• “the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill”

• “laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings”

• “laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms”

Scalia even pointed out “the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons.”

In short, it’s not the Constitution standing in the way of us passing commonsense laws to save lives.

You will take (at least legal) firearms out of the hands of 80% of the people who are associated with mass shootings.

Make ALL firearms transactions go through an FFL with a cap on fees, and you eliminate unregulated person to person sales. Everyone has to go through NICS.

Give every state 12 months to get it's reporting to NICS up to speed or face significant sanctions. We need a comprehensive database and reporting system so people with violent histories do not fall through the cracks and get access to guns legally.

Increase sentences for people caught with illegal firearms. Right now you get less time in California for carrying a gun illegally than for carrying a switchblade or butterfly knife.
