It is as relevant today as it was then.
Get Together, by The Youngbloods.

Loved the song, but thought it a bit ironic.

(9,719 posts)An entirely different world from 1967. This was the #1 song:

(21,340 posts)remember that song very well.
Yes, 1963 - before the JFK assassination - was a very different world from 1967.
Had my first "steady" boyfriend in the summer of 1963. An innocent time.

(111,052 posts)As I recall, the HQs for the 5th Special Forces (Green Berets) was nearby.
I was stationed just to the south at Cam Ranh in '68.
I recall an incident when some drunken GI shot up the mess hall and they took all of our weapons from us. We had to check them out if we went on a convoy or left the base. The gun restrictions in a war zone at that time were stronger than any gun restrictions in this country today.

(9,719 posts)We all paid the armorer $1.00 a month to keep our rifles in tip-top condition. I only handled mine once, when I was in the honor guard at the change of command from LTG Larsen to LTG Rosson.
We all had .45's in our desks at work, though, just in case. The 5th Special Forces HQ was very close by, and so was the Korean (ROK) HQ. Needless to say, we never needed to use the .45's.

(21,340 posts)that have always stood out for me.
"You can make the mountains ring,
Or make the angels cry."
Also:
"You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand.
One key unlocks them both.
It's there at your command."
Music helped to influence public feelings and opinion then, and to unite people in common causes. We could use that kind of music again today.

(708 posts)Back then, every artist recorded at least one "protest" song or "try to live a different way" song on their albums back then. I got blank looks. Not just for the term protest song, but also "what is a album?"
It is missed. The music fired us up and gave us purpose. Guess we were hippies.

But the sound quality of vinyl records was superior to some of the tinny sounds today. Depended on what kind of stereo or quadrophonic system you had, the quality of speakers, adjustment controls, etc.

(8,012 posts)A timeless number. I thought this was written by The Dave Clarke Five. I first heard this by The Youngbloods but discovered this version when I was in my fourties. I admit to liking Daves version more but I must ask, who is covering who here?
