Where Do We Stand With the Coup, the Insurrection?

Are we better off today in preserving our democracy than we were on 1/7/ 2021?

DOJ indicted or got guilty pleas from 1,000 people who stormed the Capitol.

DOJ indicted Steve Bannon, his trial is July 18th. Bannon has not indicated that his indictment will convince him to cooperate with the coup investigation. In fact Bannon is on his pod cast daily pushing the insurrection, he shows zero remorse.

DOJ indicted Peter Navarro. Navarro is a strange case, it is possible that he may cooperate rather than go to jail. While under indictment Navarro went on TV to push for the ongoing insurrection. Seeing as Bannon's trial was 10 months after his indictment, don't expect Navarro to go to trial for at least 10 months.

The GQP is complicit in the ongoing insurrection. The GQP has passed numerous anti-voter laws, voter suppression laws, throughout the states. The GQP has gerrymandered districts that give them an advantage in many states. The GQP has assembled an army of Magats who are in position in Democratic precincts to cause turmoil, to challenge voting procedures, to delay voting, just in Heavily populated Democratic precincts. Is DOJ doing anything to counter this?

The insurrection did not end on 1/6 2021, it is ongoing. I believe the insurrection has gotten stronger for the next election. The GQP learned from its mistakes, it is going to subvert the next elections at the state level before the election results are certified, they said that's what they are going to do. I am from Pa. and if Doug Mastriano is elected governor he said he will not certify a Democrat for president in 2024 in his state.

We are closer than ever to losing our democracy because people don't realize that fact. Keep rooting for super secret investigations that never pan out, keep rooting for some savior who will save our democracy at the last minute, in the meantime the insurrection only grows stronger.

Why don't people understand that time is not our ally? The longer we go without the coup planners being held accountable, the closer we get to losing our democracy.

Time has built precedent convictions that build the case for conspiracy. Time has produced 1,000 interviews and evidentiary witnesses. Time has produced a text network of criminal sedition plans.

Time allies with rule of law fact finding and case building, not what you imagine.

We are amidst the most extensive investigation into the most egregious crime ever perpetrated against the United States by more people than have ever collaborated on a crime in the history of our union by a DOJ that had been completely compromised and obliterated by TFG and his cohorts which needed to be sanitized and straightened out before any real prosecutorial work could be effectively accomplished.

The players who have not been publicly charged with a crime may have gotten away with bloody murder or they may be quietly cooperating with DOJ or perhaps DOJ is building a case against them that makes contempt of Congress look like a traffic ticket in comparison and will simply be one of the lesser charges they face.

We can deal with this in two ways: your way is to think the worst; my way is to hold out hope. Neither one of us can effect the outcome. If our nation is about to implode it won't be because we the people weren't able to induce the DOJ to open its investigation to the public midstream. It will be because the treachery was so extensive, so pervasive and so debilitating that the application of justice could not outrun the frequency and volume of the crimes committed. Due process moves slow as molasses. Politics happen every two years. Our system of government and justice may sink or swim depending on which of the two reaches the finish line first.

Until then, I cannot think the worst. I can only commiserate with like-minded Americans on this site and pray that justice emerges the victor and democracy remains intact.

(by the way, I didn't mean to condemn your gloomy forecast...it's an equally viable suggestion, but my psyche just can't handle it)

I live among the Magats in central Pa. I know what they are like. I have gotten a different perspective about our country because I have to interact with these people.

You see the good in people, so do I. I am forced to coexist with racist, bigoted, misogynists every day. i don't ever talk politics with them. Many were misled, many more were brought out of the closet by Trump.

The United States today is not a shining light on a hill, there are more good people than evil people, but the minority is having its way because good people do not realize what these people are like, what they are capable of.

A couple of days ago Matthew Dowd said that our democracy would not have survived 4 more years of Donald Trump. A year and half is a long time to not prosecute one of the coup plotters. DOJ knew in Jan. 2021 about the fake electors because the National Archives reported about it. We have documentation in writing about what the plan for the coup was, we even have video of it, what more evidence are we waiting on? DOJ waited for a criminal referral from the National Archives. Why?

And frankly, I still don't give a shit. We outnumber them significantly. They can only win by cheating (and quite possibly will). Many of the people who surround me think their party is doing one thing when it's obvious to us they're doing another. It's all subterfuge. The powers that be have permitted the MAGA crowd to see the news they WANT to see while effectively shooing them away from actual news by calling it FAKE. They live in a bubble created by their leaders and media allowing this sleight of hand to continue. They play on their fears and prejudices and get the knee jerk reaction they desire from them.

The Navarro crowd actually buys their crap as if it has merit and is provable. Ha! They seem to think we are oil and they are water and therefore our system of justice can't touch them. The clock is ticking and I'm sure as shit getting nervous too, but I think they'll be proven wrong. I see every stinking one of them going down, including their Clown Prince. Because the only fake news is the disinformation they spread every day and our prisons are very, very real.

a Democrat usually doesn't run in my district either, we did get a late minute write in.

Not all of the Magats are victims of propaganda, some just came out of the closet.

to a hope that the fascists take a drubbing in the upcoming Fall election(s). Justice in the manner of top tier coup planners being convicted of TREASON. And we know the penalty for that. Until and if democracy dies in this country, I will hope that AG Garland has an airtight case against the treasonous fascists trying to take over this country. And that he has cleaned out the DOJ of the stink and poison that trump and Barr et al, left behind in the DOJ. I just keep hoping.

When people say people will look back at the history. Like a future is even possible. These criminal mother F’ers know damn well there will be no future, why they wanna grab every damn thing now and live it up. They care as much about their own grand kids as they do 19 butchered 10 year old brown kids. If we are seeking comfort that the future will look badly at todays shit, we are screwed. It’s up to us…..only us…..right damn now. We need to leave a history the future will be proud of, one that gives them hope and a desire to fight to keep it, a fire like Ukrainian’s are showing now.

Has to say. You are putting the cart before the horse. And PA will not be putting Mastriano in the governor's mansion, put that out of your mind. Yes I will admit there are a lot of ignorant people in PA, but there a more smart people too and I have faith in them. Hell even the head of PAs GOP didn't want this loon.

Last of all I have faith that the people of this country will not let our great democracy die which is more than I can say for some. So go ahead and call me whatever you want because I could care less.

as a matter of fact I agree with you, Mastriano is toast, I can't wait to vote for Shapiro. I used Mastriano as an example of how Magats in numerous states are flat out telling us that they are going to cheat to win.

You have every reason to believe that you are right and I am wrong. I am rooting for your prediction.

Meadows and Scavino not indicted for contempt? The only hope I hold out for on that one is that it is strategic - they’re not ready to go on the other charges and the penalty for contempt would only be rolled into a more serious charge, so let them think they have dodged a bullet. Still the DOJ could have said the investigation into contempt had been suspended, not closed and I feel MM and DS shouldn’t have gotten so much credit for their limited cooperation. They blew off appearing before the J6 committee. Nice precedent DOJ set up! Make Congress more toothless.

Since Garland is an institutionalist he will not indict 60 days (? 60) before an election so we have until Aug. 31 and the only thing that may push him to indict by then is if the J6 hearings really do blow the roof off the house. But we are far past the time where a reported crime or indiscretion causes heads to roll (I gave up on that when I wrongly believed TFG was cooked after he went after McCain and the Access Hollywood tapes came out).

Claire McCaskill has noted that state Attorneys General are proactive and react quickly to events whereas the DOJ is noted for being pedantic and slow rolling cases. Even if they are 95% done on a case they still want more evidence and that last 5% may take another year or more to get unless their hand is forced by news getting out that shocks the conscience.
She clearly felt this is an institutional failing but that’s the way it is.

They need a push! I hope the hearings provide it.
