The Tampa Bay Rays need a new ball field so they won't be getting! Why you ask?

Well Governor DeSantis vetoed funding because the Rays Organization’s tweets about gun control!

How petty are these people! I know, just yelling out loud! It’s their power of evil and don’t care about their dangerous ways of governing!

Fair point, but I doubt that DeSantis would have vetoed it if they'd kept quiet about gun control. tanyev Jun 2022 #4

For money to build a stadium. DeSantis is a dick for his reasons, but the owners of the Ray's should finance the stadium themselves. That money that would go to a stadium, could go to the homeless and hungry.

Have to remember that one.

It is the reason why the Dallas Cowboys aren't in Dallas. We refused to pass corporate welfare to build a billion dollar stadium.

Should have been done in all cities and states with stadiums. Let them pay for it. Thank you for some needed common sense. Bravo!

While I dont agree with Desantis withholding funding for this reason the tweets were more than just tweets.

Is good for the Gander. If Dems don't like someone or something then they should follow suite. Cut gov funding to opponents. That seems to be fine in the Republican playbook now. Why not ours?

While I disagree with states supporting billionaires, it happens everywhere, and should be nixxed.

The important thing is that the governor is using his power, granted by the people, to shut down publicly stated opinions that are in contrast to his. I see that as a clear abuse of power. It is the same tact he took with Disney. It is only a small step from using the power of the state to shut down dissention from individuals as well. DeSantis is just the type of tyrant that Republicans have been looking for to lead us to a one party system. He has all of the qualifications to be a Republican president. A propensity to lead by decree, no morals, no ethics, no compassion and full support of corporatocracy. It there has ever been a dangerous American politician, this is the man. If I could vote in a Republican primary, I would select Trump, every day, over this man.

First of all, it isn’t for a new stadium. A new stadium would probably require a billion. This is for a spring training facility linked to the Rays.

But even that is misleading because the funding was actually for Pasco County to build an training and tournament facility that COULD be leased to the Rays for spring training. Otherwise it would be used by the public

These kinds of tournament sites are big tourism draws. If you’ve never known a family involved in “travel” baseball then you would be shocked how much they spend going from tournament to tournament. In other words they can be a very good investment in a community.

Having said that, I don’t doubt that desantis did it out of pure political spite.
