How many states are already undemocratic?

What states have devolved to one party rule and no effective way to vote out the bad guys.

I'd say Florida, for sure.

Probably Texas as well.

South Dakota?

Oklahoma?

Anyone else?

Big question is what to do about it?

The having total control isn't enough...these fuckers are so craven that they carved up the Nashville congressional district, which was a blue island in a sea of crimson red, and split it between three red districts. They totally removed Rep Cooper's seat in Congress.

But many state legislatures are gerrymandered all to hell and we can't overcome that without a massive shift in the electorate.

So much for our "civil war" proponents here who think the country would be split as it was in 1861.

NC voted for Obama. Large blue areas. And good people everywhere.

There is no "southern" influence...these racists and asshats are all over the country. I have rarely seen a confederate flag in my state, but I've seen many flying in upstate NY, PA, Ohio, and all over the west.

The influence I'm referring is the undemocratic influence of the right wing, not a racial influence. I'm not referring to conference flags.

The same undemocratic influence that stem from states like Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Texas, Florida (all southern states) has spread elsewhere. I wouldn't leave NC out of that either. That influence also exist in North Carolina. It exists all over the south. I seem to recall that the state legislature took a giant undemocratic power grab when Roy Cooper won his election.

...but you do have a point. Even a lot of deep blue states like MN and MA have some real chud areas. For example, in outstate MN, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to see a Confederate flag. And MN was the first state to send troops to the Civil War!

Saw a little of Tiffany Cross show this morning that showed Bannon on the radio openly urging the nutbags to get into state and local offices so they can control elections and ensure they are "fair." Of course by "fair" he means the nutbags always "win."

The confederacy has been waging a cold civil war since Appomattox, give or take a cross burning. Now, we have the Yankees who fled to Florida to avoid the taxes that gave them their infrastructure, which gave them their money, to pay for it.

They will reject any federal control, but still take federal monies.

The blue states will in effect be paying the states which have seceded from the union.

The GOP goal is control of the entire country, state by state.

It's an unhelpful exaggeration to say they aren't. It undermines democracy from our side. We can say Republicans are desecrating democracy in some locales, but we shouldn't say they've succeeded in eliminating it. It might discourage our voters, for one thing.

If Democratic politicians get more votes they get elected or are you saying they don't? Gerrymandering does not help with State wide votes.
