Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba slammed French President Emmanuel Macron after he urged world powers not to humiliate Russia.
France has attempted to mediate the conflict between Ukraine and Russia since the war began and maintain civil relationships with both sides.
We must not humiliate Russia so that the day when the fighting stops we can build an exit ramp through diplomatic means, Macron said Saturday during an interview with a local paper, Reuters reported.

Calls to avoid humiliation of Russia can only humiliate France and every other country that would call for it. Because it is Russia that humiliates itself, Kuleba tweeted Saturday.

(6,253 posts)Their arrogance has no boundaries, and, if we don't take a hard stand against them now, we will certainly have more of the same in all the other former parts of the Soviet Union.
Putin won't stop until someone stops him.

(6,951 posts)those who are in most need of humiliation are inoculated against it by theit marcissim, arrogance, entitlement, whatever form it takes, whatever you want to call it.
The harder sane people try to humiliate them, the more they double down on dellusion. We have many individual (and group) examples of that here.

(6,253 posts)I can't confirm the source, but I saw a figure of 30K dead Russian soldiers in Ukraine.
If it turns out to be true, the shit will hit the fan in Russia, probably by the end of summer.
Putin can't keep his immense losses of men and equipment in Ukraine secret much longer.

To do so is called enabling.

Biden is striking the right balance, following JFK's Cuban missile crisis model. You have to draw a line and hold it firm, then wait for reality to catch up to Moscow

Appeasing dictators doesn't produce good results. The west has spent 20 years appeasing Putin thinking we could work with him. His behavior is only gotten more brazen because until now he didn't suffer any consequences for his actions

Churchill was in disbelief when he heard the reports. Immediately went to Paris to see for himself. And came back to London dumbfounded.
Sounds like history repeats itself, yes.
No wonder France is trying to sabotage Ukraine, a brave, fearless country grounded in morality, fighting against all odds against evil.

(18,012 posts)until the shooting started. French tactical and strategic doctrine, leadership and morale were found to be bad to horrible. Sounds familiar. Their tanks were world class at the time and were absconded by the Germans for use on the eastern front. French just didn't know how to use them effectively.

(4,375 posts)Tell that to those Ukrainians massacred by the genocidal butchers of Moscow. Those who lost children. Who lost arms and legs or worse. Who were tortured and raped. Tell the millions who have had their families torn apart and are forced to escape horrific bomb blasts by living hundreds or thousands of miles from home. Tell it to the country who the Russians want wiped from the map Europe and the history books.
And you worry about Russian "humiliation"? Wake up Macron. The Russians have humiliated themselves and more. They have committed war crimes of unimaginable horror. The sad truth though is they, in sociopathic fashion, have no shame. So if they are telling you they will be humiliated, they are lying......again.

(18,012 posts)Way too much bad water under the bridge at this point. That would be like a negotiated settlement with Germany in 1943. Sorry, but we simply cannot. There must be a reckoning. If it means setting Russia back 50 years diplomatically and economically, so be it.

(21,702 posts)Russia should be crushed in every way possible that doesn't result in WWIII. And it should not end with Ukraine. Even if Russia leaves tomorrow there should be no relief for return to the international community as long as Putin lives. Russia must decide for themselves if they love him, or their own place in the world more. Until then, embarrass the hell out of them.

The priority should be to end the conflict as fast as possible with no (or barely any) concessions from Ukraine. Humiliating Russia isn't a target that achieves anything and Russia is already doing a good job at that on their own.
Stopping the killing and their war crimes is the most important goal and for that you need both sides and not actions that could prolong the conflict.

(54,053 posts)The goal should not be "humiliation". However, how Russia interprets the loss is on them mainly. Russia humiliating themselves is not what Macron's statement addressed.
Treaty of Versailles.
There has to be balance, and, no, that doesn't mean the crimes committed by Russia or its soldiers should be ignored or downplayed in any way.

But for Pierre's sake, you sure as hell don't say it like THAT!
It was Putin who launched the invasion with all its fury and cruelty. If the Ukrainians, whom he thought would be a pushover, humiliated his big Red Army, and they couldn't even do to tiny, scantily armed Ukraine what Stalin did to the the eastern flank of the Third Reich, well whose fault is THAT humiliation?
Macron sounds like he's asking the Ukrainians to say, "OK, master Pootie, sorry for the inconvenience, come right in, walk all over us, and take over the place like you bought the deed to the country last Friday." That can't be what he intended it to sound like, which makes it sound all the more foolish.

(12,792 posts)this should cut their war funding and throw Russia into an even greater recession. I suppose actions speak louder than words, as long as Macron supports this.
