Go after me, us, and see what happens. We will get our revenge after the elections. We will burn this democracy to the ground. We will impeach Biden, go after the Democrats. Don't indict and convict these fascist lunatics and they will come for revenge. That's the real threat, the real warning. They are not hiding their intentions. If the American people vote the Republicans back into power, then they deserve everything that comes their way.
I believe Garland understands this, he better. I hope the American people understand this, not so sure about that. The American people in general have become a bunch of dam fools who can't protect themselves or their families.
Hopefully the open hearings will wake the American people up. This is fascism. This is what it looks like. If you ignore it, don't take action, you will pay a heavy price. Hell, we already are.

(17,519 posts)head-in-the sand trick. They hear what they want to hear and they believe what they are told by their cult leaders. In fact, strong evidence against the Trump cabal will be viewed as proof of the left wing conspiracy to persecute him. We don't have a long way to fall before we find the bottom. We may be living through the last few months of even the illusion of Democracy. If, as predicted, the Republicans return to power in the House and Senate, we better be prepared for the reprisals against all who supported the "Witch hunt." It will be "Their turn" and they will show us who is boss.

(4,913 posts)The American people have always been the same throughout our history. They slumber along through life until something really bad wakes them up and then they do the right thing. It takes a lot to wake the American people up. We are witnessing it.

(7,591 posts)as my generation (Boomer) dies away and the younger generation get older and have to deal with some real challenging issues. In the meantime I think we are in real danger of losing our Democracy and that could get real nasty - I hope not but there is a lot of hatred these days.
My biggest concern is Christian Nationalism. They can and will rationalize terror and evil as a means of bringing about their promised land.

(16,348 posts)The point is NOT to change MAGAt minds. They're a lost cause. The purpose of the hearings is to share the evidence rhe committee has gathered with as much of the public as possible.
America is not just made up of highly-informed people (DUers, etc.) and closed-minded RWNJs. There are lots and lots of people in between those polar extremes, people who haven't been following things closely enough to be aware of all the details. People who don't agree with the insurrection but don't understand the full ramifications (like how serious the threat to our democracy was and is) or just HOW big of a bfd it is that a rogue potus and his henchpersons tried to overthrow the results of an election.
After the hearings, a lot of those people will be much-better informed, and those of us who were already pretty well-informed will be even more so. With a little luck, the tie will start to turn against thr Trump Cabal on a scale that we haven't yet seen.
fightforfreedom
(4,913 posts)There are many Americans who are not well informed for whatever reason. Some don't like watching the news, some people are very busy with their lives. When something big happens that's when they start paying attention. Hopefully the hearings will turn into something big that will get their attention.

(17,519 posts)a post from the other side. What "plan" do you suggest that I posted? I suggest that you go ahead and start you "stomping" out now and beat the rush.
My suggestion was that the hearings will not affect the great majority of right wingers. I also predict that the economy will be manipulated to assist right wingers running for office. If you want to argue with that, bring it, but save the hyperbole.

(17,519 posts)The only way that I know how to fight reasonably is at the polls. I am a vet too, and I hate to tell you, but as far as I can tell, anecdotally of course, is that most of the vets that I know are conservative not progressives. The military, veterans and police are the hotbeds of our modern Fascism. Loyalty to the country does not require blinders, and predicting negative results based upon an "if/then" calculation is not defeatism, but perhaps a warning to prepare; further incentive to work within the system to avoid the consequences. "When it starts" would result in everyone being a loser. We can't save Democracy by destroying the country. No matter who wins, a civil war destroys everything.
Sun Tzu tells us that, "Subjugating the enemy without fighting is the true pinnacle of excellence." The structure of the right is based on a rotten foundation of lies, fear and hate. We just need to figure out which small stone to remove that will bring it crashing down on itself. We do not do that by meeting them, with weapons, on their terms.
In a normal society, the coming hearings might show us weak spot, but I think we left normalcy somewhere on the path behind us. I hope that I am wrong, and that the hearings expose the vermin to the light, but I am not betting the farm on it.

(17,519 posts)No apologies necessary. Being passionate in the pursuit of justice is a good thing.
I have been retired for four years now, and I am enjoying it. I just hope the right-wing bastards don't think up a way to take that from me. I do know that they have people that work overtime, nights and weekends trying to figure out how to take everything I have worked for.

(21,105 posts)Unless you are of an age to have fought in WWII, you have NEVER bled for this country. Sheesh, get over yourself. The best you can do is VOTE, just like the rest of us. Just because you are armed doesn't mean that you are going to do ONE DAMNED THING to keep them from "stealing power". Your words, not mine.
And no, you AREN'T sorry to offend. Your entire post was just for that effect. No one here in DU is GIVING UP.
Again, just get over yourself.

(8,705 posts)Viet Nam or the Middle East. I get it.
But apologies to all here. As a veteran, who had no right to vote, and all the veterans I see every time at the VA hospital MY age that are having to hear threats from Navarro, Bannon, Jones and non serving pricks like Ted Nugent telling crowds to stomp liberal skulls, it does create an anger that I have a hard time controlling. As do my brothers and sisters that I spend hours with at the hospital in waiting. We share our disgust. I have voted every election after we got the right to vote given to us from that service era after and will continue. So that being stolen away under our noses is infuriating. I Just dont take threatening my life easy. I will however fight if those 6-1 idiots and other terrorist groups start killing for trump. My blood boils when my daughter and coworkers as a nurse have to have armed escorts walk them to cars after. I will not direct my anger toward any of you.
Its VERY frustrating to have so many defeatist post that nothing will happen about anything.
Forgive my out burst. I will take a break.

(6,925 posts)IF they were subpoenaed by the GQP they would show up and answer questions to the best of their knowledge, just like Hillary did for hours. IF presented with made-up 'evidence' of anything, they can refute them to their faces.
The DOJ (in place until January 2025 at the very least and hopefully longer) will not convene any GJ for any made-up evidence by the GQP.
Chainfire
(17,519 posts)Do you really think that the DOJ can, or will, stand against them? This is a spiteful bunch we are talking about. Many of them are already discussing impeaching Biden...charges to be invented later. Do you not believe them, or do you not think that they would have the power to continue to pervert justice? If the government changes hands this Winter, we are in for a stormy ride come Spring.
It takes a hell of a lot of optimism to believe that, while controlling the House, the Senate and the Presidency we are losing progressive ground, that if we only control the Presidency we will make giant leaps towards justice. Someone needs to explain to me how that works.

(17,519 posts)will be there. I shamefully admit that I once, in my silly youth, voted for a Republican. A Republican sheriff got my vote over a mouth-breathing, Hippie beating, proud dyed-in-the wool redneck. (I struggle with forgiving myself for the error) It is my solemn promise that I will vote if I can push a pencil. I may enter the door on the right, but I will vote on the left.

(424 posts)And we have some very proficient posters on this site who fall into the trap.
Garland is a milquetoast turd respected by many. We see it here daily by posters, guys who constantly belittle and dismiss the fighters. When aggressive people propose going after the repukes, they swarm.
These people are Republican enablers and it has gone on for too long. If it hasn't clicked in your brain yet, we are way past having logical discussions. We are at the point of kicking their ass or getting our ass kicked.
If you don't want to fight, FINE. But step back, there are plenty of us more than willing to take them on. Condemning aggressive liberals plays right into the RW destruction.

(6,017 posts)There is no timeline where they don't follow that same path taking one route or another so pardon me if I feel his argument is a bit hollow. They've told us their endgame, and that they're willing to accomplish it no matter what. It's only a question of if /when Democrats will decide to act to shut them down everywhere possible rather than stand idly by waiting to react, because that's what our traditions require. And yes, I do value those traditions but I fear we've let them lead us astray this time. They don't work with this sort of adversary willing to burn everything to the ground before we can have a chance to react.

(2,403 posts)I think the hearings are going to be a huge pivotal point in our countrys future. I do believe that despite the loud angry gopers that the country IS pushing towards more progressiveness. I think these states pushing for hardline abortion laws are going to find themselves dealing with revolt of some type. Maybe (hopefully?) not violence but I think the fallout for what they want to do will be disastrous for them. Own the libs as a policy platform can only take you so far before people realize that you are failing them In other ways. I think that in the next two years we are going to see some changes in our country. it may be ugly at times but I do think that we have to unfortunately go through it.

(2,254 posts)I keep hearing the pundits saying the Democrats' messaging is all wrong as if different messaging would fix the problem. Every time I hear Biden make a speech, he accentuates the positives: jobs, unemployment, economy. But the polls indicate nobody is listening which isn't surprising: high gas prices, not enough baby formula, short supplies in general seem to be all anyone is noticing.
Biden couldn't prevent any of that but gets blamed for all of it.
If Trump and everyone who helped him go to jail, John and Jane Doe won't give two shits because gas is still $5 per gallon.
So, what is Plan B, or C or Z?

(17,519 posts)Nothing new about that. Rightly or wrongly it is a fact of life. We know Biden is not responsible for the price of gas, or of the supply of baby food, they probably know it too, but it is a convenient whip. Nobody understands whips like the right...
Where Biden has lost ground is not with the right, they already hate him and everything he stands for, but with the middle and the left. That is where the danger lies. I love the man, but he needs to take his gloves off if he is going to lead out out of a potential hellhole. In theory, the President is the most powerful man in the world. The muscle of power atrophies if not vigorously exercised. I would love to see the man mad as hell! I think a little shoe throwing, desk pounding and hell raising would do worlds of good for my morale and perhaps others. If we aren't carefully we will civilize ourselves down the river.
Of course someone will attack this as a "right wing talking point," one thing you can be damn sure of, is it is coming from a proud Yellow Dog Democrat, not the right.

My instincts as well as the last two general elections, tell me the majority of people in this country don't want another wannabe autocrat in the White House. If all members of that majority get the opportunity to vote, cast a vote and have their votes counted, we might prevail.
