It would be nice if someone explained why Philip's will wont be made public for 90 years.

(25,922 posts)How many millions of people - Im guessing a billion or more - are coping with the aftereffects of that wretched dynasty? Different family lines may have been in charge over the centuries, but the subjugated people suffered nonetheless.
I get no satisfaction from following the pageantry surrounding that monarchy, defanged though it may be nowadays. Any hereditary institution gets an automatic thumbs down from me.

As a descendant of the Atlantic slave trade, I see nothing to celebrate with these murderers and thieves.
I do find their notion of polite society hilarious.

The list goes on - capped, of course, by the slave trade you mentioned. Heres a little article about some atrocities theyd prefer we forget right about now:

(5,125 posts)And considering the group that wants to "dismantle" the Royal Family is called "Republic" I think we know the replacement would simply be an Oligarchy instead of a Monarchy and the family at least does attempt to mitigate some of the worst ideas.
I see them as a bit of a BLOCK against worst scenarios while allowing the Democratic process to function the best it can.

I DO HAVE MORE HOPE of the younger generations, skipping the ugly duckling and his mistress.
Maybe before she dies she will issue that formal apology for the involvement in slavery by the Monarchy. Not sure if there will be any money attached, but she seems to be softening at times.

(5,125 posts)The Royals are always accosted in life, Dianna basically killed by paparazzi.
Once they die and the will executor and appropriate eyes have seen it, then they get privacy. So Nunya. (None ya buisness)
PREVIOUS wills have been sealed INDEFINITELY. So ironically, 90 is major progress.
Philip's is obviously less racy than most so they actually might open it. 125 years was suggested, Andrew thinks 90 should be enough for a review date.

Do you have a truly better option, actionable that would give UK something better?
WHY not talk about that then?
She doesn't SUPPORT slavery or discrimination.
She may not be doing enough about it at this stage of her life, but how old is YOUR grandma? Mine are all dead. At her age getting out of bed is a miracle and a blessing.
Does anyone on DU realize that we are talking about fellow human beings as well as whatever position they hold?
But no, not hugely excited about Jubilee. Just impressed with anyone at her age holding a position of responsibility and getting through it on a day to day basis.

(6,829 posts)A notorious tax haven off the coast of the UK that has been a money laundering machine for
centuries? Nobody knows.
Elizabeths family wealth is parked there and running the vig for using the islands tax status is probably how theyve managed to retain the respect of the actual govt. Theres a reason Russian oligarchs/mobsters choose London as their home base and its not because of the weather.
The royals were the first mobsters. The Queen has the finest healthcare on the planet and is being celebrated because shes lived this long?!
Pretty sure none of them are nice people tbh. At least one of them escaped the family biz and is trying to make it on his own. Now thats something I can respect

(5,125 posts)From the Crown having the power to execute at will, to being a figurehead is progress, I'd say.
From the days when minorities could be banned from positions to where they are being actively hired in 1990 despite ongoing issues, still progress.
From the time when there was a Church of England and it ruled everyone's life, so the Pilgrims took a hike to more progressive attitudes of today.
And YES it's not enough and the younger generations are leaving the family biz. But even those who stay might find more courage to do better and make real reparations. It's a hope, but if they have eyes to see and ears to hear, they might just surprise us.
STILL we need to keep supplying the kind of allies that make that possible, Biden vs 45. Zelensky vs Putin.
When the US is stronger we can demand more of our allies.

(5,125 posts)I don't have it in me to hold on to hate. (Well, tRump, but he's working everyone's last nerve.)
IF the Royals went away and were no longer involved in politics, I'd consider it a win IF they were not replaced by power hungry rich people working much worse machinations.
At least the Royals have a smidgen of scruples, or QE2 does have some anyway.
I guess I am saying, be careful what you wish for. The results could be worse than what was there before.
I've got some Irish in me, but not enough apparently to outright hate the Royals. I do hope and pray the best for Ireland because it still manages to rise about the fray quite often and amaze with it's resilience and love of freedom. I feel a lot of the strength I have in me washed down my DNA strands from that side of the pond.
May your troubles be less and your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door

I enjoy the jubilee because it is celebrating the remarkable life of a wonderful, splendid woman who has given her life to the service of her country. Certainly not something she chose. She will go down in history, as well she should.
I find this odd bitterness amongst some about a truly good person to be very revealing.
