"You know, we are not in a situation where former President Trump has expressed any sense of remorse about what happened," Cheney said. "We are in fact in a situation where he continues to use even more extreme language, frankly, than the language that caused the attack. And so, people must pay attention. People must watch, and they must understand how easily our democratic system can unravel if we don't defend it."
"Was it a conspiracy?"
"I think certainly -- I mean, look, if you look at the court filings "
"But do you believe it was a conspiracy?"
"I do," she replied. "It is extremely broad. It's extremely well-organized. It's really chilling."

(5,443 posts)Such integrity is apparently lacking in much of the Republican party. She believes in their social policies, cultural policies and economic policies, but not in power at all costs-- something we can hope the Republicans supporting Trump's lies will come to regret.

(32,620 posts)... and most of them were/are in on it. Not Liz Cheney of course, but look at the actions of Kevin McCarthy and many other Repukes who were there that day. If an impeachment had been held THAT DAY, Chump would have gone down. Because they were all angry and scared. But actually, the impeachment and trial happened about 3 or 4 weeks later, and that was enough time to get them all settled back to their routine. They WOULD NOT vote to convict Chump. That's how little time it took for those a-holes to "forget" how much they hated him.
The Jan. 6th committee hearings - starting this week - will bring it all back and remind us of the evil and horrible things that Chump and his group really tried to do.
Liz Cheney will not forget, and the committee will spell it all out for us. The world will see Chump's EVIL.

(894 posts)He was going to succeed
He probably practiced his acceptance speech while the Capitol seethed with his supporters
and people were injured and some died
As is his wont, he had insulated himself from potential failure, surrounding himself with those who would willingly fall on their swords to protect him
. No way he was going to dirty those tiny hands
it was always someone elses fault
He will go to his grave believing he is king of the hill and that he has pulled off the greatest con ever

(111,076 posts)They tried to cover every possible situation, right down to moving Mike Pence and putting someone else in to do his job on January 6th.
It was extremely well-organized over every branch of government.

(82,849 posts)This wasn't a spontaneous outburst by any means. I hope the investigators are tracing the roots of this extremely well-organized conspiracy.
