Not sure why we don't contest the inflation issue, blame GOP trade wars, etc.

I just heard Congressman Nadler on CNN. He was talking about how the abortion and gun control issues are game changes for the election. Pamela Brown brought up people's finances, and it seemed to me like Nadler just wanted to change the subject. It's not the first time I've heard that. Somehow, for some crazy reason, a lot of Dems think they need to run from the inflation issue instead of toward it.

President Biden, as usual, has had the best ear for this. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/04/15/bidens-claim-70-inflation-jump-was-due-putins-price-hike/. Blame Putin for most of it. Point out, like we do, that there is inflation in Europe. Point out that the GOP Trade Wars damaged the economy in the United States, leaving it vulnerable. https://www.forbes.com/sites/stuartanderson/2021/05/20/trumps-tariffs-were-much-more-damaging-than-thought/?sh=68ba41a665bd.

And top it off with a question. Why would any American in their right mind think the Republican Party would do anything about consumer prices? They've said nothing about what they would do, so yeah, that's what they would do. Americans who didn't have the sense to vote against Republicans would be voting to leap from the frying pan into the fire. They would be voting for gridlock and inaction by a party that doesn't care about working people, the Republicans.

1. A lot of Americans' idea of politics is simply "throw the bums out"

They don’t really care what the alternative is. They are in denial about the fact that it’s either Democrats or Republicans, they have to choose. And Republicans are actively sabotaging the economy. Even though Democrats are always better on the economy, throw the bums out

2. I'm not sure a sizeable number in the electorate even knows or cares who's "in."

But they do know Republicans, and they've been burnt by them time and time again. Dems should just remind them about the Republican record and ask if maybe they want to think about jumping into the fire.

3. They are still believing the myth that a smart businessman should run the country

I don’t know where this came from. The government is not a business and should not be run like one

4. Contest the myth. Republicans are run by idiots who start trade wars now.

We shouldn't run away from the Republican reputation for sucking up to business. Indeed, we should use that as another thing against them. Corporate profits are way up, and Republicans care about that more than prices being high. If Republicans get a foothold, corporations will have a field day with prices.

9. Yes. I would rather deal with the government organization. They are designed for citizen services

Private businesses are designed for one thing making money. Government departments are flawed but their purpose is to provide the services not make money

10. Yes, very much so. They might operate with "business principles" in some cases...

... but as you say, they are organized and operated with a primary mission of providing a service without the distraction of having to be "profitable."

If there's so much inflation, why haven't precious metals performed like oil has?

Aren't precious metals supposed to be the classic hedge against inflation?

PM prices are just laying there. Shiny, yes. But calm. How come?
