Mike Menudo?
He said that DeSantis resembles the dictators he loves to hate. He retaliates against people and organizations for a simple tweet. And he keeps attacking American icons. So far its baseball, Disney and even stepped in to tell small business what to do. And, yet, he plans to run in 2024 as a candidate for American president.
I agree. De Santis is little Fidel.
On edit: A Batista wannabe.

https://www.britannica.com/biography/Fulgencio-Batista
Fulgencio Batista, in full Fulgencio Batista y Zaldívar, (born January 16, 1901, Banes, Cubadied August 6, 1973, Marbella, Spain), soldier and political leader who twice ruled Cubafirst in 193344 with an efficient government and again in 195259 as a dictator, jailing his opponents, using terrorist methods, and making fortunes for himself and his associates.
Batista has been part of the myth of a great Cuba...told to generations of Cuban-Americans by their elders! When they see DeSantis they imagine him to be a reincarnation of Batista!!!

How the mafia and a Cuban dictator built Havana's casinos
| By Matthew Reiss | From The Cuba Issue, May/Jun 01 Cigar Aficionado
It was December 31, 1958. Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista raised a New Year's Eve toast to his cabinet members and senior military officers and wished them hasta la vista. After seven years of building Havana's tourism industry by inviting gangsters such as Meyer Lansky to construct casinos, helping to fund their enterprises and taking a large chunk of the proceeds for himself, Batista knew his presidency was over. His plundering had weakened Cuba's treasury and demoralized the army. He filled three cargo planes with all he could carry and was on his way to the Dominican Republic before the sun came up on 1959.
Nine days later, Fidel Castro's guerrillas took the capital and installed what would become the longest-lasting communist government in the Western Hemisphere. But while Castro could close the casinos, arrest the gangsters and deport or imprison Batista's henchmen, he could not bury the skyscrapers that had drained the wealth of the island. Castro inherited from Batista a Havana of overt poverty and ostentatious wealth, where the haves of the world's richest nations had come to exploit the have-nots; where statues of Lenin and Marx would be dwarfed by glass and stone monuments to the Mob; where the nation's architectural landmarks would be a constant reminder of the days when criminals were in charge and the Mafia roamed free.
But until that last day of 1958, the only revolution that mattered to Mafia financier Lansky involved a roulette wheel. During the Batista years, Cuba was a place where a crooked man could make an honest living. After a half century on the wrong side of the law in the United States, the celebrated gangster was legit. America's high rollers and celebrities were living large in the casino of Lansky's luxury hotel, the Riviera, and the drinks were on the house.
As a kid in Manhattan's Lower East Side ghetto in the early part of the century, Meyer Lansky learned how to cheat, bribe and split fees with other cheats. He ran into Charlie "Lucky" Luciano, as legend has it, in a street fight, and Lansky's tenacity convinced the Sicilian Luciano that this Jewish kid had possibilities. Together with another local Italian, Frank Costello, and a young tough named Benny "Bugsy" Siegel, they created a powerful network of numbers runners and bookies throughout the city. With Luciano at the helm and Lansky at the register, the combination soon expanded nationwide.
When Prohibition took effect in 1919, Lansky's and Luciano's gambling alliances helped provide contacts with illicit liquor distributors across the country. The pair soon controlled a healthy share of the import and transportation of bootleg liquor.
After 14 years of windfall profits, many bootleggers were put out of business by the market forces of competition when Prohibition was repealed in 1933. Lansky's financial success had already made him a target of law enforcement. When New York started getting too hot, Lansky looked for other places to take his gambling operations.
In the mid-1930s, a Cuban army sergeant named Fulgencio Batista took advantage of political chaos in the former Spanish colony and formed his own government. At the time, the island republic was foundering, as was its gambling industry. Years before, Havana's nightlife had attracted wealthy entertainers from the United States, such as Sarah Bernhardt and Enrico Caruso. But Cuba's gaming industry had become mired in cheating and corruption by the 1930s. So, in 1939, Batista recruited a New England racetrack owner named Lou Smith to revive Havana's Oriental Park track and Meyer Lansky to clean up the casinos.

(1,668 posts)People who arent living that freedom fighter cosplay anti Castro reenactment will know hes more like Batista, but the followers will be confused long enough to actually pay attention. Democrats need to fiddle back with the emotions of the GOP base.
Sure they could start peddling an accurate reading of history, but that starts breaking other parts of the narrative.

You might read up some more on Fidel Castro. He was everything the Batista fascist Cubans -- and Marco Rubio -- are not.
DeSantis can't be BOTH a little Fidel and Batista wannabe -- they're polar opposites.

And, he will be allowed to, because overturning Roe and Casey will lead to that. He will outlaw same sex marriage, first. I expect that this summer after teh SCOTUS Roe decision.
I am scared.

yes we can blame the universities for not reassessing those radio associations after they were bought to sell kkk BS
those 87 universities need to reread their missions statements, and stop helping elect fascists like desantis

But, he is just as mean spirited, and as you note, a wanna be dictator, but just a more competent person generally and as an elected official.
He won't beat Trump, because Trump has the mass appeal and his master skill is hitting at the lowest core of human beings, which sadly is the way to the hearts of most of our electorate at this point.
But, is something happens to Trump, he would be next in line now. You just can hear it when the Rs talk, they get and like what he is putting down.

(1,153 posts)If he runs he will beat Trump. He will be the dictator and forever president of our country. What all his supporters fail to realize is that once he is elected, he will through away all his supporters because he will not need them anymore. I don`t think Putin cares one bit about the general people of Russia. De Santis will not care about the people here except the billionaires just like Putin. The man is dangerous just as Trump is. But the stupid people and the corruption by the Republicans at the polls will carry the day and deliver to our country its first fascist authoritarian dictator. And when he starts to do the things he did to the businesses and the companies in Florida, the idiots who voted for him will say "Duh, I did not see that coming." Too late now fools. Remember, DeSantis has never said one word against what Putin has done to Ukraine. He has named himself the commander of his 3.5 million dollar election force. He will not hesitate to take control of the national guard in the states and the militias will help him. We are headed to dire times in our country if DeSantis or Trump wins. Without a civil war, we will never see democracy again.

Anyone trying to make DeSantis out to be another Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez or Nicolás Maduro would be ridiculed by Floridians who lived under those regimes. And comparing him to Fulgencio Batista would likely gain him votes in South Florida.

(4,291 posts)This tells me he is owned by Putin and his cohorts. While other states dumped Russian holdings shortly after the attack on Ukraine, Ronnie decided to let the legislature decide what to do. And -- given his recent use (abuse?) of the veto pen on successfully-passed spending bills during their recent session -- what's to stop him from whipping his pen out again?
Charlie Crist should publicly throw this into his face every chance he gets. Even if he doesn't get the Democratic nomination...

Everything will be a culture or social attack. They want to get all the norms and traditions out of the minds of people and replace those thoughts with what they want.
The end goal is to create a great fear and uncertainty and then be portrayed as another Only I Can Save You paternal figure.
The way to combat this full on assault is to counter with a strong candidate who is not timid at all will hit Republicans with an iron fist of truth.
