"The fact of the matter is our volunteers, our supporters had put in too much hard work for us to end up getting bounced off the ballot due to some technicality," he told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday.

(182,627 posts)They require ballot petitions to be one ONE sheet on paper with signatures and it has to be 14 font. Oh and the vote has to be greater than 60% (to stop Medicaid expansion).

These restrictions are ridiculous!

(11,726 posts)I know that any campaign for signatures will run into similar problems, but it seems like Democratic organizations at least seem to be able to do their "due diligence", especially on a matter directly related to the situation they are wanting to address.
Republicans are "trying to find" an answer to a fake problem so that they can try to restrict voting. They understand that their policies make only the richest people comfortable and do not improve lives of anyone else. That is why their strategy is always to make their based angry and afraid, and then try to dissuade or disenfranchise everyone else. If they can make it close enough, they can use other unethical and likely illegal tactics to "win" elections.

(53,061 posts)If I was asked to sign one of these I would have signed "Donald Duck" and by law they have to submit all signatures even those considered "suspicious".
Their fault lies in not denoting false signatures and submitting a buffer that creates a surplus of good signatures.

(53,061 posts)Would get smart ads signatures and have to submit them even though everyone knew they weren't serious.
In the case of similar handwriting/ink the question could be either the signature gatherer was padding the petition to get more money or the campaign was at fault, in either case should be investigated.
It's an easily solved problem for the campaigns, require sig gatherers to take pic of everyone who signs.

(9,958 posts)The US seems to be getting more and more lawless. While I cant blame Trump entirely, his frequent exhortations telling his rally attendees to break the law and he would pardon them did not help. He made his disdain for the law obvious in many ways, from not paying taxes to claiming that Hillary belonged in jail with no description of her crime or evidence other than she annoyed the hell out of him. The whole January 6 insurrection was a call to break the law, and yet Trump has faced no consequences and perhaps never will. Republicans have shown many times that they have no respect for the law and willingly break it, from creating illegal slates of electors they sent to Congress to elections staff illegally breaking into voting machines and turning over computer files to partisan hacks.
When you have a whole group of people obviously breaking the law with no negative results for their actions, people get the message that they too can act with impunity. So far, only the January 6 foot soldiers are paying a price, and for most of them the price has been very low with lots of probation or very few months in jail. Between the Republican nitwits with Boebert and Greene, the heavily armed militias wanting to start a civil war, and the Republican elections officials who think they now have the laws and the crooked officials in place to steal elections, we are seeing a lot of civil laws being broken. Id really like to see some consequences.
