Has anyone else been watching The Family on Netflix?

Last edited Mon Jun 6, 2022, 03:19 PM - Edit history (1)

The Family and Doug Coe are one of the most influential organizations in DC that you've never heard of. Rachel Maddow has covered some of their peripheral organization, especially The Foundation, which I think is the huge Washington home on C Street, but that was way back when SC Gov. Mark Sanford was hiking the Appalachian Trail (in Argentina ). It's worth viewing. This is made from a book by journalist Jeff Sharlet.

Stranger Things. At least I know the latter is a work of fiction. Still, the way these misogynists twist Bible stories to fit their agenda is really perverted and yes, creepy.

3. In the 2nd or 3rd episode, they talk about Sen. Ensign of Nevada

having an ongoing affair with the wife of his long time friend and aide. The Family pretty much defended Ensign and let the victim (the friend) hang out to dry. The way they twist the stories from the Bible is scary.

in relation to the Dominionists and other theocrats taking over the country over the last 40 years. Didn't know it was on Netflix. Thank you for the heads up. Caught some of it on HBO when it was on there. Will finish it now. Although it's likely to give me real nightmares now!!!

They are still around and have become more powerful. They are still behind the National Prayer Breakfast and work with the World Congress of Families, entertaining such religious luminaries as Maria Butina. Whatever we heard about them in the W era it was not complete, they are the heart of christian nationalism in the USA and a powerful connection with Russian christo-fascism. It is one of the few "Conspiracy Theories" that is not a theory and is a demonstrable conspiracy. Jeff Sharlet's book and the Netflix doc about them should be taken in by anyone who cares about these things. Top rate stuff.

something about how the Bible is the greatest political playbook ever written. This was either just before his presidential campaign or shortly after he declared he was running.

My sister told me she watches PR and thinks he's a good guy. I was happy to tell her about PR getting hooked up with the murdering Taylor.
