President Biden has made free covid vaccinations and tests readily available to all Americans; has presided over the most robust economic recovery in US history; has made diversity a reality in his cabinet, judicial and other administrative appointments; favors a woman's right to choose, unions, stricter gun laws and a shift away from fossil fuels; has quietly but effectively led the West's assistance to Ukraine; has restored honor and decency to the White House and regained the respect of our allies AND adversaries-----and yet-------------

(42,302 posts)It makes me crazy that Democrats, including some elected Democrats, continually criticize and trash him because they haven't gotten their pony.
Do they think they'll get what they want with Rs in charge?

(6,847 posts)but I don't think they're quite stupid enough to vote R, but they are stupid enough to not vote. Not votingseems harmless compared to voting R. Unfortunately, it isn't.

I supported him during the primaries (and even before he announced) and proudly voted for him.
While I have had very high expectations, he has surpassed them.
One of the great American presidents. He will have my vote the next time. To be sure.

(1,481 posts)That used to be a given. What the hell do people need to get the picture here? Everything is at stake.
If you're not that excited by some candidates, get excited about the issues facing all of us. This is existential.
Do we survive as a democracy for starters.

They want their pet issue addressed in less than one term let alone 2 terms.
It would be good to note how black women keep voting for Democrats with a longview in mind.
They do not run away from their party because they don't get what they want at the time they want it.

He isn't doing enough for x. There are a lot of x's in the world.
It doesn't matter that the gop is trying to eliminate x. It doesn't matter that tfg crippled the agencies and courts that protected x.
What .atters is only that x perfection hasn't been reached.
I'd like to show them what pain looks like.

(4,616 posts)But WE did. The war in Iraq, squandered trillions for a lie. In the 09 "to big to fail" bail outs, gotta have those executive bonuses and lavish retreats. American Airlines bailouts, they just got 54 BILLION in COVID grants, like those sky high fares right now, never you mind, their share holders needed another mansion! . Yet some people just can't tolerate student loan forgiveness. That might actually benefit citizens. Meh, let's give another bail out to AA or maybe another government grant to help Elon with his 44 BILLION purchase of Twitter. That's a way better use of tax dollars!

(11,296 posts)attached to AA. But the second part of that argument would be that Covid funding to the airlines (and supposedly other parts of the economy?) amounted to 'bail outs' covering 'irresponsible behaviors.' So - is that your position on the bulk of the Biden administrations Covid stimulus efforts?

(11,296 posts)performed either by individuals or small home grown organizations. This would be pretty much the opposite of what the previous poster and I were discussing. (specifically corporate bailouts) And it should also be noted that the 'aid' went out with a (knowing) lack of guardrails - because that is specifically what the politicians (read Congress and administration) wanted at the time. And the argument in favor of that was both crystal clear and up front - i.e., 'speed before accuracy.'

(2,839 posts)that voting is not a one shot deal. It has to be vigorous, relentless and continuous. I don't want a fucking pony even if I could get one. I want every member of the Party of Death to be exiled to Russia. Most likely won't get that either. But, I'm still going to vote for every Democrat I'm eligible to in every single election.

Considering what President Biden was left with after that other guy vacated the White House, he's done a Herculean job getting our country back in track.
He's getting all of the blame for the inflation gripping the country right now - undeservedly so - but this too shall pass.
He's exactly what this country needed at the time, and he's surpassed my expectations.
If these Democrats "aren't enthused" they need to step back and remember what this country was like up until January 20, 2021. We've come a long way and we're not finished yet.

(3,943 posts)The problem is gas is $6 a gallon, food prices are way up, inflation is bad, interest rates are going up
and a lot of people are uneducated and opinionated. They blame Biden for all these things when in reality none of it is his fault.
Take gas prices for example. I was at the American Legion a couple weeks ago and of course they had Fox News on
(sigh). This guy next to me started complaining about our California gas prices and Biden. I casually mentioned that in 2020 the President (Drumpf) got Russia and OPEC to cut production because oil prices were so low and US producers were going bankrupt. Then the pandemic hit, demand plummeted, prices dropped even more, more production dropped. So when demand picked up in 2021 there was no corresponding increase in production. Prices went up. Plus the shale producers who lost money in 2019 and 2020 now were pressured to return profits to investors. Its called GREED. He looked at me like I was from another planet.
Then he brought up the Keystone Pipeline and said it couldve been different. I told him even if it was approved it wouldnt have helped. It wouldnt be done for YEARS and besides that it was CANADAs oil not ours. Being piped to the gulf to be exported to OTHER COUNTRIES. Same blank expression.
To be honest the guy was a typical less educated Republican who believes Faux News garbage instead of actually educating himself. I realize the mainstream media has some issues at times but I compensate for that by reading and researching. I dont take everything at face value. A lot of people just drink their kool-aid. Stupid people drive me crazy and I think Im outnumbered.

(10,154 posts)I mean all this moaning and groaning because some poor suckers got loans for college because they thought it would gurantee them a good job and turns out it was just another capitalist con. Now the suckers can't ever pay back the mortgage sized loans with never ending compounding interest because there are nothing but crappy jobs left. And we blame the suckers for it?
But when WallStreet and bankers crashed the American economy they got bailed out. Wasn't that a pony? What about the huge tax cut the filthy rich got? Wasn't that a pony?
But it's the poor sucker we get all upset about?
So I ask you, since handing out ponies to the filthy rich left and right got a lot of GOPers elected including TFG, why not hand out ponies to the poor suckers and get Dems elected?
It's so obvious and if the tables were turned and bailing the poor suckers out would get TFG and GOPers elected, they would do it in a heartbeat. Let's play the same games.

Why can't Democratic politicians grab this simple, popular, and powerful philosophy? ($ is the answer, but it's an important rhetorical question)

(12 posts)voter turnout so far for today's election is LOW--every county is reporting this. So far, it's under 20% in most counties. reasons (excuses?) are everything from apathy, to burnout from other elections. IN LA, the billionaire (and newly turned Democrat) is slightly ahead of Karen Bass, the recall election of Boudin seems to be working. Most importantly, folks are not voting ;- (

(4,916 posts)If you think that the people who want student debt to be addressed don't remember which Dems were part of the move to make it even hard to go bankrupt on student loan debt, you would be wrong. They know. I could go through your list and talk about the frustrations of liberals, but you don't really want that. You just want everyone to act like the job that is being done is enough. It isn't. And this is the cult of personality that Trump had. We can support and vote for the Dem in the White House and still think he needs to do more and/or different things. That's how it works.

(82,383 posts)they don't have to be enthused. It is stupid of people to give up their right to vote over not being entertained enough or not getting what they personally want. What we personally want is just not enough to use to let Republicans in, who aren't going to do what we personally want anyway.

(2,541 posts)And everything to do with none of this mattering if the GOP manages thru voter suppression to take back the majorities because Dems could never get everyone to stand up in the party and protect voter rights.
If they get back into a majority by noon the 1st day the filibuster will be gone and legislation reversing all of these great gain will start.
As the minority party the GOP has done an impressive job using Schumers inexperienced as leader against him to basically shut down everything they care about.
