Dear Americans: Joe Biden does not control the price of gas

The Russia/Ukraine war has affected the cost of natural resources. Like it or not, the economy of the world is interconnected.

But Joe Biden can no more control the price of goods/services, than I can click my heels and return to the prices of 1990.

Every time people pay higher prices at the store, they're going to blame Joe Biden.

Every time people pay more at the gas pump, they're going to blame Joe Biden.

Every time people pay more for anything, they're going to blame Joe Biden. And they'll also blame the Democratic Party.

Does anyone really believe that politicians control the economy?

Does anyone really believe that voting for Republicans is going to "put more food on the table?"

Private industry, international incidents, war, and supply and demand, drive what things cost. Politicians love to toss out bullshit at election time, that they're going to make thing better, but that's bullshit. They'd tell us they'll create where and when hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcano eruptions and ice storms will occur if they thought it would get them more votes.

World leaders control much less than we think they do. At this moment, Joe Biden is being blamed for high prices at the gas pump and the supermarket. And many morons actually believe that Joe Biden and the Democratic Party are intentionally fucking them.

So I'll tell you what. If you really believe that, vote for Republicans. They won't change what you pay for gas, or food, or cars, or anything else you buy. But they will destroy our constitution, our laws, our democracy, our country, and all of our freedoms. These are things they do control. And, when you vote Republican, try to understand that they have become infected by an insanity that will fuck you beyond anything you could have imagined any Democrat would ever do to you.

1. The Dems or the media need to find out who is profitting from the price gouging asap

An explanation of why, who, and what is in order.
If there is gouging, how could there not be?, and actual people are making the decisions to raise prices, we need to know who they are and what they hope to accomplish other than lining their pockets. A nation recovering from the past few years of sacrifice need to know we are all rowing the same boat.

7. People don't give a fuck
Mon Jun 6, 2022, 07:56 PM

All they know is that they put the nozzle to their gas tank and gas is there to be pumped.

They don't care about the logistics it takes to get there or how those costs change.
They don't care about supply and demand.

People give a fuck about any of that.

Gas prices have up gone all over the world, and yet they will blame Joe Biden for that. I have conversations with people and tell them, if you believe gas price increases and inflation is here because of any policy decision happening in America, you have a very short view of American politics.

I've had people literally tell me that WE DON'T GET OUR GAS FROM RUSSIA SO IT SHOULDN'T AFFECT US. I'm willing to have the conversation if someone is willing to be receptive. I have to explain that because we get (or used to get) a small amount of petroleum from Russia, it still affects gas prices because for countries that have cut off Russia still have to get it from somewhere else IN THE WORLD, including the USA. That constrains global supply and will increase prices.

Politicians have spent the last 60-70 years telling the American public that opposing party is the reason your gas prices are high. Now the public believes that. So what are you gonna do...

9. What a president can do is to use his diplomatic influence

to encourage oil producing states to increase output, especially as we attempt to move our European partners away from purchasing Russian oil. That includes Biden trying to make a deal with Saudi Arabia (which you started a thread to oppose).

At home he can also have some influence on pricing though smart use of our strategic oil reserves and by encouraging green energy (as he's doing though the latest moves using the Defense Production Act.

President Biden is moving on each of these fronts.

10. It doesn't matter. Good or bad, people hold the current politicians responsible for the economy
Mon Jun 6, 2022, 08:51 PM
Jun 2022

Just as James Carville is often quoted "It's the economy, stupid"

People are going to give the current politicians praise when there are good things and blame them for the bad things. Comes with the territory & that's just how it is.

We all know that if the Republicans had the presidency, and house and senate majorities, we would be blaming them for inflation and high gas prices every day. Chuck Schumer held press conferences at gas stations in 2018 blaming Trump for it being $3 per gallon. Both Obama and Bush were blamed as well for when prices rose during their tenure.

12. Idiots believe Biden is stopping companies from drilling

Oil companies have chosen to avoid investing money in drilling and refineries because they are reaping in record high profits. The free marketeers claim that supply will increase due to high prices but that has proven to be a complete lie.

14. There's one way the government can control the price of fuel.

Nationalize all the oil production facilities in the US - from the drilling to the sale and everything in-between. Get all the crude we need, refine it all we need. Export none. Refined product can then be sold in US at cost.

But that would be socialism.

15. Unfortunately, people are f*cking stupid

People blamed Jimmy Carter for high gas prices and economic conditions that he did not create. Then, a few years later, when the cycle turned around, as it would have anyway under Carter, we had additional massive debt from Reagan's tax cuts, but people credited Reagan as having solved the problem.
