what time is it when Mitt thinks he is going to win Minn and PA?
time to realize Mitt knows he ain't winning the other swing states
Obama has it clinched
and people will vote even if its by candlelight
anyhow, try to get back later on...
and maybe Chris Christie will convert seeing all the damage and how much he wants to rebuild.
there could be 100s of thousands of job opportunities in NYC and NJ where it really is horrible.
hope everyone in harms way is safe

That is how they will always stay stocked...they ship extra supplies ahead of time, based on anticipated adverse conditions
Home Depot/Lowes and others would do well to adapt this model

(26,549 posts)In fact, they have a crew who flies out to the anticipated disaster area and helps the stores get ready. They also have policies and plans specific for each store in how they'll operate before, during and after a disaster.
Most of the time, they only run out of stuff only because their suppliers run out. For example, the Milwaukee tool company doesn't make all that many chainsaws in a day. But they can usually keep the lumber department stocked.

(1,784 posts)Probably that means they'll vote on paper ballots. And that can only work in Obama's favor.
Good luck to you. Be safe and dry.

(28,455 posts)Staying with in-laws. No power but the water is at least at a trickle. I talked to him briefly today on his cell phone. He's saving battery power but wanted to check in. Just waiting it out. Glad they are safe but worried about the people a couple miles away in Hoboken.

(176 posts)Residential power outages are real bad where I am(Allentown, PA), but one of
the Walmarts outside of are among the few stores/businesses that
have no power or signs of life.

(21,642 posts)Seems like when there are massive power outages, priority goes to water treatment plants and hospitals, closely followed by some police/fire stations and a large grocery here and there.

(3,953 posts)No power, no phone service of any kind, downed trees and power lines blocking streets, very few traffic lights working, and a tree fell on my roof. Sitting in my car using a portable Mi-Fi hotspot device that works slowly but does work. Hubby went out this morning to find someplace with coffee for me and found a 7-11 with power. As he was waiting on line, he said that knowing me, he wondered what he would do if they only had Robme election cups left, but luckily he didn't have to make that choice. They were all out of election cups. So all was good!

(60,161 posts)assume you meant Wi-Fi, which brings me to the point...I need to find one. Our wee town is talking about going totally Wi-Fi. A portable device plus the cell phone charger that works on the car cig lighter, I should be all set.
DeeDeeNY
(3,953 posts)From Verizon. It's a portable WiFi and I highly recommend it.

(3,315 posts)...and the local Target store is jammed with people trying to charge their cell phones. My contact said people were sitting on the floor waiting for outlets.
This would be a great service for organizations/government to provide to people who are stranded with their power down.

(1,819 posts)My phone takes about 3 hours to charge, which would burn up a bunch of gas. But I can turn the car on long enough to check messages and make any necessary calls.

(4,777 posts)I got hit hard twice last year, trees down and power out for nearly a week from both Irene and then the Halloween snow.
Monday was nerve racking. The wind relentless. The lights constantly flickering but we never lost power. No trees down in my yard or in my neighbors'. The rain was relatively minimal, about 1.16". I thought North Jersey got off easy until I tried going out yesterday morning. Just on my block there are 8-10 huge trees down, about half took down wires to the home.
Travel is nearly impossible, so many roads are blocked by downed trees and wires. It is nearly unbelievable. I didn't even try to go anywhere today except by foot. Damage from the snow last October was extensive but I think this is worse. Too many unlucky people killed or seriously injured by falling trees.
Halloween has been postponed until Monday by executive order.
The Jersey shore finally caught the big one. The damage is not surprising. After all, much of our shore is barrier islands, which are temporary structures that exist at the pleasure of Mother Nature.

(11,464 posts)slowly some towns are up and some blocks are up while next block still down
(depending I guess on trees taking out wires)
main roads are coming back on quicker than expected, but not side roads getting to main
found a library a few towns over that is open(though most of that town still down)
VERY IMPORTANT WHEN DRIVING- gas station lines are endless, and if you are in right lane, you might slam into the end of a gas line, while the left lane (or middle) is clear.
don't take your eyes off the road til more stations open
as for election-I pray that the repubs don't attempt to move voting places without letting people know, based on who is voting(wouldn't put it past them).
I do hope internet is back election night, or I am going to find some place where it is and hunker down there til I see the results
6 days to go, 6 1/2 til results should show Obama winning bigtime.
And if Kerrey is coming back in Neb. that might mean 55, though can we really call him a Democrat? He is more a PITA but its better than a repub I guess.
more later if we get back here.
stay safe and oh, its suppose to be colder tonight in NJ
around 35 or so, wonderful timing.
At least rain was less and basement has not flooded this time.
be safe and be well.
