To take the spotlight from the Jan 6 hearings.
Because that's what the Repugs do, play the Press like a $2 toy.
I need to add this is pure cynical speculation on my part.

(96,882 posts)The SC ruling is already news, so dropping the official version on Thursday won't have any impact on what happens Thursday evening.

(4,557 posts)When you consider the courts schedule is very public, I'd say it's trolling.

(10,599 posts)But they usually save the biggest decisions until the end. My guess is they will wait until the last few decisions for the Abortion & Gun rulings.

(42,038 posts)Seriously? If that happens then The SC needs to be abolished and we have to start from scratch.

(141,926 posts)'Opinions are typically released on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and on the third Monday of each sitting, when the Court takes the Bench but no arguments are heard. The Court maintains this schedule each Term until all cases ready for submission have been heard and decided.'

It's been on their calendar for months, she said on her pod Daily Beans, this morning.
So J6 scooped USSC!

(96,882 posts)The Court schedule is posted on their website. Where anyone could have looked it up before engaging in baseless speculation.
Thursdays are conference meetings. Decisions will be issued on Wednesday.

(131,720 posts)That's not how the court works; they still have 30 cases to decide, and they save the big ones for the very end of the term - which technically isn't over until October, when a new term starts, but they normally release their last decisions before they go on recess in July.

(4,937 posts)There may even be separate opinions by more than one justice in those two categories. (Thomas manages to write one or the other of those for almost every case where he did not write the majority opinion. And Sotomayor also writes a ton of dissenting opinions.) For that reason alone, it will probably be one of their last releases.
And they may not want to be physically at the Court for additional opinion sessions, once it's out.
On the other hand, they might release it on Wednesday. Or add another opinion day, at the 11th hour on Wednesday, and issue it on Thursday, as you worry they will.

(131,720 posts)As other posts have pointed out, the court publishes its decision day schedule, and Thursday isn't one.
