Whoa Colbert's LICHT atCNN might(says Axios) target ACOSTA/STELTER as"partisan" for "new direction"

CNN’s Chris Licht Set to ‘Oust’ Partisan Talent Who Won’t Fall in Line: Report

CNN’s new president, Chris Licht, is reportedly evaluating the network’s cast of partisan personalities to decide who will fit with his plans to take the network in a new editorial direction.

In the weeks since Licht took the helm at CNN, he has emphasized that his priority is to have the network focus on straight newscasting and truth-telling, rather than the polarizing commentary and alarmism that dominated cable news in the last few years. A new report from Axios says Licht’s plan includes deciding on which CNN personalities would be most suitable for this angle, and which people might be let go from the network. ....

The report suggests that Licht isn’t completely against “personality programming,” but “he wants to ensure that partisan voices don’t dominate in a way that harms CNN.” Axios also notes that Jim Acosta and Brian Stelter have become magnets for conservative critics slamming CNN for the left-leaning slant of the network’s coverage. ....

Mediaite’s Colby Hall recently argued how a key to Licht’s success at CNN would be his ability to get reasonable Republican elected officials back on the network after what appears to be a party-wide boycott that started during the Trump administration.

2. Jim Acosta should interview Chris Licht

and ask him to name who he thinks are "reasonable republicans". Licht's response will undoubtably show his bias.

3. If Licht thinks Stelter is "too partisan," he's already failed.

Stelter pretty much plays it straight-down-the-middle -- a little too often for my tastes -- which, yes, does result in Republicans facing more criticism than Democrats, but that's deservedly so, because of their many inexcusable actions. If you think what Stelter is doing is "too partisan," it means you basically need to artificially bias the system in favor of Republicans, which is exactly what Licht is claiming he doesn't want to do.

People need to wake the fuck up and realize that both sides are certainly NOT the same and if you devote equal coverage to them in the foolish endeavor of trying to achieve non-partisanship, you are basically being partisan by refusing to call out Republicans on all their bullshit.

5. That is exactly correct

Perhaps if he wants to cover crime stories he could give both sides an equal chance: say the stories of the 21 murdered people in the school versus the heart wrenching story of the poor 18-year-old who used an automatic weapon the gun them down - so we are certainly evenhanded here at CNN…

Such bullshit. Certainly don’t wanna get the conservatives upset now do we?

4. Ah yes, good old "bothsidesism"

"False balance, also bothsidesism, is a media bias in which journalists present an issue as being more balanced between opposing viewpoints than the evidence supports. Journalists may present evidence and arguments out of proportion to the actual evidence for each side, or may omit information that would establish one side's claims as baseless. False balance has been cited as a cause of misinformation."

They already do a lot of this over on CNN. If they increase it even more, I will definitely not be watching them anymore.

but CNN has gone RED and I just can't watch it now. They better fix this stuff. I will bet they have lost a load of viewers and that is why the change. Hope so.

7. What is he afraid of? The right wing has been calling all news media liberal biased for decades

CNN could go to the right of Fox and they would still call it liberal. They have to have an enemy and a foil.

8. Exactly. Anyone telling the unvarnished truth will be attacked by conservatives as "too liberal".

IF that is the plan, I’m not seeing the problem. That’s how it used to be done, before cable news became a thing and did its bit to ruin the country.

And he has done a great job holding Faux news and others accountable, as has Brianna Keilar, for their obvious bias and fact-challenged takes. That's what media critics should do.
