All for increasing security for SCOTUS justices if the facts warrant it, but doing so in response to an unsuccessful threat while failing to take any real action after 19 children are murdered would sure send a message about who matters and who doesn't.
***TRIGGER WARNING***
Yes, well we do know who matters and who doesn't. Hint, it is not the kids. In a doctor's testimony today he said two of the children were literally decapitated by an assault rifle in the hands of an 18 year old male. The GOP doesn't give a damn.

(11,726 posts)I understand how the President needs Secret Service. He is out in front, has to be high profile, and is inherently a political figure who some people disagree with, who other countries may want dead. Also, we have had a few Presidents killed and several others shot.
Supreme Court Justices have historically flown under the radar, especially while serving. That the conservative members of the court have become so brazenly political, sounds like a personal problem.
Not that I condone threats against people's lives. That should not be a way that we do things in a civil society. The thing is when you try to take away rights from half the population in the country, people are going to be upset and the less "tethered to reality" are going to do things that most people would not do. I condemn the person who threatened to kill Kavanaugh, even if I find Kavanaugh disgusting.
I also don't think that we should rush to protect SCOTUS when we leave our children so vulnerable.

Saw a clip on twitter of Mitch going ballistic saying they SCOTUS needed protection NOW. This after telling the GOP not to vote for ANY GUN REFORMS for children.
I have no words.

(86,333 posts)We should start making it a thing when someone is out weenie waving with their tool on display by point out that they are doing just that. Loudly proclaim their sense of inadequacy is why they are out there trying to intimidate everyone. Make them a pariah.
Prime example: Kyle Rittenhouse.

(83,655 posts)They should all take active shooter training, how to hide under their desks and barricade the doors against the shooter. Then they can have Miah come in and tell them how to keep their children alive if it happens at home. You smear a loved ones blood over your whole body and then play dead in the hope that you might live.
Tears.
That was my exact same reaction when I heard this on the radio today; they should just arm themselves then. The failure of the republicans to even begin to see their own hypocracy is astounding.

(86,333 posts)arm uteruses. Actually not a bad idea. It used be considered absurd, not so much anymore.
The most powerful thing we have is education. When people understand what respect is and why it matters to them and everyone else, violent offenses are less likely. War is possible when people see anyone else as the other, not the same species even, so that they can justify their hatred toward them. It all starts with ignorance and disrespect allowing and feeding some sense of superiority.

Don't know who most for. The little victims. Their families. The survivors. The community. That feeling of outrage, and helplessness. The shock. The anguish. For our schools. For our young 'uns - they'll likely be affected, deeply, by this from coast to coast, and probably for life.

My nephew and his wife are teachers. I am afraid to even ask them if they have active shooter drills.
