...remember that it is about their political survival. They cannot recognize the truth, let alone speak it.
They are betting that they can defeat the Democrats in the arena of public opinion. They believe their lies will overwhelm the truth about January 6th.
After all, who would dare to say that they were part of a conspiracy to overthrow an election? Who would dare say that they committed a Federal crime in a quixotic attempt to keep a corrupt and deceitful leader in power?
You should understand that when you hear a Republican speak, they are being deceitful. They are being untrustworthy. They are being hypocritical. They are continuing to cover up a very serious crime.

(5,817 posts)They really believe all the lies.
We have a hard time understanding how they can be sucked in so totally, but it's a cult. And we're rational. This is why we can't convince them of facts. Cultists refuse to see reality or anything that challenges their belief system.
Fuck if I know how to deprogram them, though. I wish for the sake of our country we could deprogram them.
Many are just zombies at this point.

Reinstating the Fairness Doctrine would be a good start toward that end.

The second thing he said was that he knew there was no such thing as global warming and he could prove it. The third thing he said was that gas prices are way up and going up even further so it only goes to show that it really matters who you vote for. Fortunately after that they called my name and my car was finished and I was out of there.

(7,868 posts)I saw it when Reagan ran and the religious conservatives who came on board with him. They have since engulfed the entire GOP.
in 1981 Barry Goldwater had this to say about them:
On religious issues there can be little or no compromise. There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of Gods name on ones behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both.
Im frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in A, B, C and D. Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me?
And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of conservatism.
