(1,779 posts)The absolute worst thing you could ever do to him is prohibit his name from every being spoken or referenced ever again. Take away his attention and he'll shrivel overnight.
The ass is powered by attention, and we keep giving it to him for some reason.

(1,962 posts)My brain says no.. Life in the toughest, nastiest federal prison in this country. As much as seeing him hung or executed might be fun, it'd turn him into a martyr.
Take all his assets, lock him up and let him rot - out of the public eye, forever.
doc03
(35,325 posts)pardon him. It is nice to think about I don't think he will suffer any of the above.

(1,962 posts)My only hope there, honestly, is that if sentenced to life in prison, he won't last long there. He's 75, in terrible health, and was softer than fuck even in his youth. So if sentenced to prison, may his weight or age or piss-poor health or whatever cause it to be a short sentence.

(3,836 posts)Once a year for a month, for the rest of his incarcerated life, he will be stripped naked and put into a stockade next to a fruit stand, where folks can purchase tomatoes & other such foodstuff to be used to pummel him 24/7 while fulfilling one of his ongoing nightmares.
The proceeds from the fruit stand will actually go to a charity for children, representing the tens of thousands of children whose lives he has poisoned & destroyed forever.

Step 3: Imprisioned in a "regular" jail - no favors, no devices - or in a deprivation chamber
Step 4: No one in his extended family may ever run for office.
(I was also thinking of the head on the pike, but we wouldn't want children to see that.)

(24,761 posts)He deserves not only the penultimate punishment (prison, DQing, and asset forfeiture), he also merits permanent infamy. No one must be allowed to praise this traitor, nor must anyone be permitted to emulate him. Just condemn his memory.

(10,133 posts)No Secret Service detail for him or Mel, no travel budget, no office budget, no health care, no pension. And put a lien on Mar-a-lago and his other assets until he pays back those facility and security debts he's accrued giving his rallies the past few years.
The only things he cares about are money and his ego, so hit him there.

(146,286 posts)I can't say.
The crime of treason is very clearly and precisely defined in the Constitution. It's a charge that doesn't fit, actually, so he will not be charged with it.
H2O Man
(73,536 posts)The highest charges filed thus far have to do with a conspiracy for sedition. There is no chance of Trump being charged with a higher charge, especially treason -- which, as you note, is clearly outlined in the Constitution.
MineralMan
(146,286 posts)That doesn't reassure me very much about our understanding of the Constitution, frankly.

(111,079 posts)Article III, Section 3, Clause 1:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
It's important to recognize the difference between "treason" at the constitutional definition, and the common use meaning of the word. January 6 was a seditious attempt at insurrection with the aim of keeping Trump in power. Despite the fact that Biden won the election, those active in the conspiracy to keep Trump in office by force have made two things clear: they believed the election was stolen, and they were engaged in an action they believed the president wanted them to do.
I know this sounds like splitting hairs. In the common use of the word, I agree 100% it was treason. Yet they believed they were taking a patriotic action to keep the then current president in office. Their target was the two houses of Congress, to disrupt and keep them from doing their duty. Thus, they are at most being charged with a conspiracy per sedition. There is no chance that Trump can or will be charged with treason, as the head of the effort.
kentuck
(111,079 posts)Although some would argue that his actions were an act of war against our country.

(42,696 posts)As a few others have noted here, there is zero chance of Trump being charged with, let alone convicted of, treason.
Indeed, it is more likely than not that he won't be charged with anything relating to January 6 -- for example, while Judge David Carter (District Court Judge in California) offered his opinion (not a legal finding) that Trump likely is guilty of a felony attempt to obstruct congress -- a crime punishable by a maximum of five years -- I don't believe that charge will be brought nor could a conviction be obtained. Carter acknowledges that Trump working with Eastman to develop a legal strategy for contesting the outcome of the election can't be the basis for a criminal charge. The distinction he tries to draw between Eastman and Trump discussing legal strategy and Trump discussing the January 6 strategy of having Pence reject the certification of electors from certain states and accept alternate electors is pretty attenuated.

(50,555 posts)So Im going with turn the second and third tiers of Alcatraz back into a prison and put Trumps entire administration into it. Tourists dont get to go up there and itd be pretty easy to keep rabid Trumpers from trying to get up there to kneel before him. The government could make big money by selling the same meals the prisoners are getting to the tourists.

Given the plethora of crimes committed in his lifelong crime spree, the punishment I prefer for Trump is one long-ass federal prison sentence, political ramifications be damned.
