https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-government/fbi-searches-home-ryan-kelley-gop-candidate-michigan-governorLANSING The FBI raided the home of Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Ryan Kelley on Thursday morning. The FBI executed both a search warrant and arrest warrant at Kelley's home in Allendale Township, spokesperson Mara Schneider told Bridge Michigan. Video reviewed by Bridge Michigan appeared to show FBI agents leading a man who resembled Kelley into a gray SUV shortly before 9:30 am. It's not immediately clear why the man was taken by authorities.
Chris Kelley, a relative and campaign treasurer for the Kelley campaign, said he was "aware" of the Thursday morning law enforcement raid but declined further comment. A real estate agent, Kelley rose to prominence in conservative circles in 2020 for protesting removal of a Confederate statue in his hometown and organizing a Michigan Capitol protest against COVID-19 policies.
Kelley was at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2020, when supporters of former President Donald Trump breached the building in an attempt to stop Congress from certifying President Joe Biden's win. Kelley has said he did not go inside the Capitol. Video from outside the building showed him climbing on scaffolding and encouraging other protesters.
Bridge Michigan will have more on this developing story.

(5,819 posts)I just thought of something. What if law enforcement all over the country is arresting insurrectionists today, Day 1 of the hearings in order to make a statement? If so, I love it!

(9,462 posts)I am hoping his hometown is somewhere down south because wtf would a Confederate statue be doing in Michigan?

(18,968 posts)The monument they're talking about is the most racist thing I've ever seen. It's beyond the pale and the Right rose up and preserved it.
The monument shows Union and Confederate soldiers looking all regal and dignified standing at attention in full uniform, and then there's a naked slave boy crawling around at their feet like an animal. It's absolutely insane that they left it up and as is, it's sick and disgusting.
But that's where the Republican party is right now, racism is their ideal. This is a monument to racism and they love it.

(9,462 posts)Because I don't know what "tradition" they would be celebrating other than rebels killing REAL patriots from Michigan? If someone put up a Confederate statue in WI or MN, I would want that fucker torn down.

(1,200 posts)Grew up here in west mi. Left for 20 years. Once back (have places in 2 spots, 1 not in mi)---was shocked at racist things people said to me, assuming i would feel the same. I spend a fair amount of time declaring how progessive and liberal I am, so people will shut up.

(5,819 posts)I lived in the SF Bay Area for 30 years and came back to MI. I was shocked at how much more racist people seemed to be versus before I left the state.

(1,200 posts)Prob started assuming---in the 30 years, (esp west coast, i was there part of my years away too) we had moved ahead in society, in general. Logical.

(5,819 posts)For work I often have to go to rural areas and I fucking hate it. It seems like the backwards GOP supporting morons are just so damned belligerent. There's no such thing as "live and let live" anymore.

(1,200 posts)Having to go into the wilds! So hard. redeeming aspect for me, is i work in an industry that's tolerant. (Fashion), so my coworkers are cool. Also went into a fashion masters program, (in a college in wide open country)--but the dept/university was literally a balm.
"Rude awakening" is perfect description--that's what I felt too!
Growing up here was so? union, auto-industry oriented--that people had different political affiliations, but conservative views weren't so harsh.

Just have lots of questions, but this excerpt hints at other matters apart from Jan6. I would be keen to know if he is charged with anything beyond protesting eitehr in Michigan or the Capitol on J6,

Kelley, 40, of Allendale, was charged in federal court on Thursday for knowingly entering or remaining on the U.S. Capitol or its grounds without authority, disorderly and disruptive conduct in that space, knowingly engaging in any physical violence against persons or property on U.S. Capitol grounds and willfully injuring or attacking property of the United States, court documents say.
A link to the charging document appears in the woodtv8 article.

Pennsylvania Republican state Sen. Doug Mastriano has been identified as a key figure by the House Jan. 6 committee in their investigation into the Capitol insurrection and efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Mastriano repeatedly supported Trumps election-fraud lies, including staging a policy committee meeting in November 2020 that gave Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Trump, who called into the meeting a platform for disinformation. Mastriano spent over $3,000 to bus over 100 Trump supporters to D.C. on Jan. 6.
During the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, Mastriano was seen crossing police barricades. He said he did not cross any lines established by law enforcement. Mastriano has denied a subpoena from the committee, but recently agreed to an interview in lieu of a deposition. He has also voluntarily handed over some documents but the committee said it was not requesting documents involving his work as a Pennsylvania state senator.
From Election Day to Jan. 6, Mastriano promoted baseless conspiracy theories. The Jan. 6 committee has said he worked with the Trump White House to undermine the results of the 2020 election. He condemned the insurrection, despite spreading disinformation that motivated the attack, according to reporting from news organizations, investigations, and public records. The Jan. 6 committee has also subpoenaed midstate Pa. Republican U.S. Rep. Scott Perry for his involvement in Trumps attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 Election.
Heres the timeline for how Scott Perry promoted election lies between Election Day and Jan. 6. Information used in these timelines comes from the Jan. 6 committee, the lawmakers social media pages, public records, and other reporting.
