Anyone know where the 400M gallons of diesel/gas polluted water is being pumped to?

Was stated on MSNBC by Jim Cantrell that the water in the subways was so full of fuel his eyes watered up after 1-2 minutes.

They are pumping out 400 million gallons of it - to where?

Scary.

I think they are just worried about speed, not environmental safety...

My father grew up in Jersey City in the 1930s and 1940s and talked fondly about riding his bike in the meadowlands through the shallow ponds of blood from the slaughter houses.

I'm kidding about the depository for the murky NYC waters, but telling the truth about the ponds of blood.

Yes, I know it's horribly polluted. But they MUST remove it to save the trains/subways from 100% destruction, and they must do it swiftly.

I'm an environmentalist, but I am also a pragmatist in emergency situations. If they need to pump it into the gutters and storm drains, they can be my guest. I seriously doubt there is ANY alternative. If they sent it into the sewers, it would destroy the treatment plants.

There's no mention of the homeless people who live in the subway tunnels. Not sure of the current numbers
but there were always some.

permission to do so. Otherwise they need to skim the oil off the top of the water before they pump it out. They will most likely use submersible pumps that will take the relatively clean water from the bottom out first. Can't tell you where they will pump that water, probably into the sewers so that it can go to wastewater treatment.
