2 people stuck in tank of chocolate at central Pa. M&M factory

https://www.pennlive.com/news/2022/06/2-people-stuck-in-tank-of-chocolate-at-central-pa-mm-factory.html

A rescue mission is underway at the Elizabethtown M&M/Mars factory, where two people fell into a tank of chocolate and are unable to get out.

Lancaster County dispatch said two people fell into a tank around 1:51 p.m. at the Mars facility on the 200 block of Brown Street.

The people in the tank were not hurt, but they cannot get out on their own, dispatchers said.

The chocolate is believed to be about waist-high, according to dispatch.

Elizabethtown firefighters are still at the scene as of 2:30 p.m.

One guy is trying to break up his ex-girlfriend's wedding, the argument gets heated, they stumble into a chocolate factory, heated words, then blows are exchanged, they roll into the chocolate vat, the girl ends up with one of the firefighters played by a Hemsworth brother.

With a title like "Don't M&Mention It".

Tracked down incident reports.

Big rescue & medical presence at chocolate factory.

Another early report also contradicts news report & says injury.

So, still in early reports / details sketchy mode.

It's chocolate syrup. But that's gonna be acid and harm the skin severely.

Chocolate is tempered at lower temperatures (depending on the chocolate and the point of the process):

https://www.alphafoodie.com/how-to-temper-chocolate/

THE CHOCOLATE TEMPERING TEMPERATURES

Different types of chocolate have different minimum and maximum temperatures during the tempering process.

Dark Chocolate: Melt to 46-50°C (115-122ºF), cool to 28°C (82.4ºF), and reheat to 30-32°C (86-89.6ºF)

Milk Chocolate & White Chocolate: Melt to 40-45°C (104-113ºF), cool to 26/7°C (79/80.6ºF), and reheat to 28-30°C (82.4-86ºF).

Augustus Gloop is quaking. On Thursday, two people were hospitalized after they fell into a tank of chocolate at a Mars Wrigley’s M&M factory in Pennsylvania in an incident reminiscent of the memorable fall of the “great big greedy nincompoop” in Roald Dahl’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Officials in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania told local news outlet CBS21 that two people were taken to the hospital after falling into the tank. Emergency dispatch confirmed to the outlet that there had been a rescue operation in the Elizabethtown-based factory.

According to photojournalist Nathan Yerges, the two folks who fell into the tank were employees of Mars. Cones had been set up around the factory and the local fire department was on scene at the time of publication.

It’s unclear what color M&Ms were being made by the chocolate in the tank. However, Rolling Stone continues to take a stand against the anti-yassification of the green M&M, who was formerly seen wearing go-go boots in Mars advertising and is now being forced to wear sneakers.
